Indians are comfortable with Nepotism
by Vijay Sahani on Jul 22, 2017 01:26 PM  | Hide replies

By and large, Indians are very comfortable with Nepotism. They see nothing wrong when a Doctor's son becomes a Doctor, a businessman's son becomes a businessman or for that matter when an Actor's son becomes an Actor.

Actually, this is a disease. It mean in most cases the son / daughter is not really pursuing his dream but is taking advantage of the achievements of his / her parents to get a leg up over others.

We Indians have accepted corruption with open arms. Nepotism is just another form of Corruption.

don't you echo your parents' thoughts? Don't you follow the religion, culture, habits of your parents? There are a few mavericks who take off on their own, but most people are followers.

It is more apt to say corruption has become a norm, We feed the devils and in the process they enter us and make us behave like them ! One form is nepotism.

Otherwise children getting motivated by parents or siblings or extended family, isn't nepotism.

I'm not saying that in all cases when children follow their parents it's bad. As long as they "really" want to do it, it's fine. But in almost 90% of the cases the children are encouraged / motivated / forced to following their parent's profession because of the readymade platform the children get.

Not in India. Getting an admission to become a doctor is very easy in India. Money speaks.

Besides, i'm not talking of hard work. Anybody who has an IQ of 120 can become a doctor or an engineer or a scientist. The issue is about following the family profession because of advantage they get. Of course, it's not illegal. It's just that a person may have the aptitude to be a painter but he is forced into family business because it's a readymade platform which is available to the child.

As far as Actors are concerned, most have an IQ of below 80 and would be failure in anything else they do. Most celebrity stars are not even good actors but they have looks and in Indian movies that counts. The day acting will count, most celebrity stars will be out of the profession.

We may be making life of our children a bit easy, but certainly we are not making a better society by following nepotism.

only looks matter??? we need good actors like nana patekar. and what looks you are talking about, most of them get modified by plastic surgery in US cos they have money. i m sure u don't know these things.
How many common guys who aspire to work in bollywood can go to US.

I think you should read again. Mine was a sarcastic comment on the acting capabilities of star sons who only have looks they have inherited from their parents but are zero on acting capability. It does not mean that if a good actor has talent even though not looks he cannot succeed in Bollywood.

Read, Understand and then write.

Kangana's letter shows her to be an intelligent, well-read and cultured person.
Wonder if Saif, or any of the three for that matter, will be able to even understand what she is saying!
