Rediff we are a democracy. You don't display that our constitution is in English and is not in our so called one of the official languages which is Hindi. That Hindi and Urdu are almost the same , when spoken , as for as languages go are found in internet If on the basis of that article in internet- NOT MINE-if discussion comments are made you don't display the truth,But you display the words:" Hindi is our national language" which is blatantly untrue and internet articles say that there is no concept of national language in India. Please be fair R.Ponnambalam

Indian constitution is in English
by R ponnabalam on Jul 21, 2017 06:03 PM

Hindi is not at all National language.Urdu spoken , but written in Devnagri instead of Nastaliq is called Hindi , of course with a sprinkling of few sanskrit words, that from 1867 as internet articles show. Urdu is of Farzi,Urduan/urdu lineage In speech essentially it is Urdu.Hindi/urdu ,it is your wealth and you speak &enjoy it as you enjoy your other wealth .Don't give it to anybody as you don't give your other wealth to anybody But this drama of language imperialism of imposing an invader brought language and calling it Hindi just by writing in Devnagari and pretending that we are a democracy of equal rights must stop.India must recollect that the Indian Constitution can not be had in Hindi neither is it.R.Ponnambalam

Janas
It is because of this
by Janas on Jul 20, 2017 08:47 AM

that Tamilians are feeling left out as much as Kannadigas or Telugites or Assamees or Bengalis. I appreciate and am also proud of the fact that Hindi is our national language; but it shouldn't be that one's mother tongue is subservient to it. Will all the intolerant brigade talk only in Hindi in London? If they r targeted or lampooned will they not cry hoarse at this racism? Sorry, but what happened was simply NOT DONE!

I am a Tamil. I don't think as a citizen of equal right in this country anybody can tell me that I should learn Hindi or enjoy it, particularly when I had lived in N.India, have been told by a man (he was a native religion practitioner) in a shop "we speak Urdu." to my surprise.Thereafter I had asked people what is the difference between Hindi and Urdu. The answer is "Both are the same."Then search in internet told the matter straight.Sentences like Hindi and Urdu are almost the same language as for as languages go and much more. Why say Hindi call it Urdu and Speak it .Nothing is wrong in that

by R ponnabalam on Jul 19, 2017 09:55 PM

Hindi is Urdu ,with a sprinkling of sanskrit words to give Religion ward tilt.In 1867 N.I wanted to write Urdu using Devnagri script.Otherwise in speech it is essentially urdu .Urdu is the national language of Pakistan.Tamilians respect all languages, we need not enjoy other languages like Hindi .We can choose what we need.Hindi is your wealth like your land and money and enjoy that.Don't expect others to enjoy it, R.Ponnambalam

The singer chooses Ragas
by R ponnabalam on Jul 19, 2017 09:47 PM

If Rahman had no contract saying how many songs he has to sing in this or that language he is right in his choice. In any concert the the performer /Singer chooses the ragas he has to sing.Audience do give requests. Rahman could have felt comfortable singing that way he did that day that time. He is right R,Ponnambalam
