They didnt leave the brothel simply becoz they had no place to go.It shows a spirited fight of the "lowliest" amongst us to the inhuman consequences of partition, where people were uprooted from there homes. Watch it not for the history but Vidya Balan and her gutsy performance. It has a harsh charm of a Ishmat Chugtai kind of telling of a story
Was the Brothel worth dying for. The whole theme of not leaving the place along with other millions of refugees selecting either of the nations, seemed silly. Still the film is worth watching. Remember Shabana Azmi's Mandi?
Poorly directed on an unrealistic plot. Defies common logic. Here is a Maharaja who goes to Delhi to influence realigning the IB (a few meters here and there)to save a brothel as if the IB was delineated on an accurate 8 figure grid reference in those days!! The main character actually does not fit for Vidya Balan. All in all just a watchable movie...
what it regards is serious cinema, Bollywood ends up creating insipidly comic mish mashes, loud, garish and full of vapid posturings !!
The fault does not lie entirely with Bollywood film makers. After all, they have to dovetail their products for some acceptance by the hindi speaking people, generally one of the stuxpidest segments of humanity.
But when Bollywood makes what are referred to as commercial masalas, there are no holds barred anyway. They start, run and end insipid as well as loud and often downright embarassing, in full regard to the levels of appreciation their target audiences are capable of !
Audience kept glued to seats and clapped at the end of the movie. It is a good movie with some message as well. Don't want to get into technicalities but a well made movie, good performances and impact. Surely not the kind as reviewed by experts.
yet one more bit of excrement from the huge world of crap that is Bollywood !!
But then, considering how this industry thrives from the complete absence of judgement and analytical perspective among North Indians, arguably the stuxpidest segment of humanity, such an unending stream of crap should evoke no surprise at all.

you are right Mr Ali. The film is not made for target North Indian audience. It shows my country doing wrong and the Paki as correct. How can your so called " judgement and analytical perspective among North Indians, arguably the stuxpidest segment of humanity" like such a movie
