I honestly feel that some elements of article above may not fully represent the reasons of why business is falling. The population of India is growing, middle class is growign even more and paying capacity is increasing so honestly ticket price is hardly an issue. I dont think it has anything to do with quality of movies either. Also to say that quality of movies is inferior is understanding the issue wrongly. We have always had good and bad movies every year.
Some of the key reasons what the author may have missed are:
1. Advent of social media: piracy is becoming a bigger issue. Most of the people have already seen the movie by downloading or on video channels. Someone needs to see the youtube stats
2. Its not quality but length of movies. There is a reason why cricket moved from 5 day to 1 day to half a day event. We need to do the same with our movies. Time for long movies is well past. People dont have patience.
3. People viewing habits have change. TV offers much better options, social media even better. Movie industry needs to stay relevant and attractive enough.
4. The only point on quality is that perhaps our movies to less extent and TV to a much larger extent have failed to keep the viewers engrossed and engaged. There is absolutely nothing that a teen can watch. Both TV/ movies cater to perhaps 35-40 audience a lot more - which is why even a crappy program like Big Boss is such a big hit (it's perhaps the only thing people can see except for Hywd channels
