naseer has made a fool of himself
by venkatesh prasad on Jul 30, 2016 09:28 PM

probably he has forgotten how rajesh khanna was selected and made an entry into films. not one but three great directors and producers chose him for his acting
kaka was versatile and could fit into any role jovial and lively, serious, bad guy, loser , psycho with ease
can naseer do that. he can act well only in intense and rebellious role
can naseer even think of playing a role like anand or bawarchi or the one in avishkaar

Naseeruddin Shah on Rajesh Khanna
by Alok Kumar on Jul 30, 2016 08:35 PM  | Hide replies

Actor Naseeruddin Shah recently opined that Rajesh Khanna was a 'poor actor'. Naseer is right. Rajesh Khanna was an outright bad actor. Can you watch those movies today, which catapulted him to the stratosphere of stardom in that era? This manipulative actor had luck on his side and he succeeded when all older and better actors had a concurrent lull period in their careers.

Looks and style alone can not make an actor a star. Rajesh Khanna had lot of talent in him, he can fit into any role easily. Aakhri khat happened before Rajesh Khanna became a star, in fact he was not an established star at that time. Watch the scene when he ultimately finds the baby, you will change you opinion about him forever.

It is not only Rajesh Khanna but other stars were also very good actors.
Have you seen any closeup shots of present day actors? No, you will not see because they can not emote as well as the yesteryear actors?

And, finally who are you to judge the actor, what credentials you have to pass such a judgement?

Om Puri is right only film critics and historians has the right to pass such judgement about yesteryear actors.

Naseer's oblique diatribe
by Xerxes on Jul 29, 2016 12:39 AM  | Hide replies

Naseeruddin shah is a very good actor. In fact one of the best ever. But he copied blindly a lot of Hollywood actors - case in point being a scene by scene copy of Al Pacino's style, dialogues and mannerism from Scent of a woman in Mohra, if anyone remembers it still. Rajesh Khanna did get into a mould - a caricature of himself very soon since the late 70's but was definitely a brilliant actor in his heydays. Just 2 films will suffice as testimonials - Saccha Jhutha as the rustic bumpkin devoted to his sister & the ruthless philanderer urban man (a bit of himself) in real life. The other being Aapki Kasam - especially his emoting through the song - Zindagi ke safar mein - when the someone's world is falling apart. Mind you he doesn't lip synch the song and there is no dialogue. His only expression is through his face and body language. Pure poetry.

Great observation, Mr. Xerxes.

Only knowledgeable and educated people like you can do justice to things like this.

And call a spade a spade, without being too acidic.

My sincere thanks to Mr. Om Puri as well for showing the aged actor, where he belongs.

Good wishes.

Ignore such Comments
by Raj Gopal on Jul 28, 2016 10:59 AM

We should ignore such comments made by someone who has not achieved even fraction of what Rajesh Khanna has in the commercial Cinema.

Some so called Method actors who have gone to Film institutes self-certify themselves as Judges of Acting Talent, let them think so and live in their own world of Utopia.

Om Puri is quite correct!
by Srinivas Konuri on Jul 28, 2016 12:30 AM

Rajesh Khanna never went to film institute or any other school/academy to learn his trade but still could more than hold his own with anyone from his profession.

Rajesh Khanna had a string of super hit movies running into well more than a dozen that no actor before or since had. I do not think this extraordinary feat will ever be replicated.

As far away from the mark as Naseer is, Om Puri makes all the right points and hits the nail on the head.

Finally, I do not really know who would attempt to denigrate a colleague, a very accomplished one at that, and who is no more. At the very least, Naseer's pronunciations are in bad taste!

Kaka was never a good actor
by arnab bhattacharya on Jul 27, 2016 11:36 PM  | Hide replies

Rajesh Khanna had a great mannerism which kind of attracted the audiences for a certain period of time.He was like fad which went up and came down. In terms of acting I don't find him to be great actor much like the current superstar Salman Khan..Sorry! atleast he was better than Sallu

Seems you must be having a habit of joking.

Mr. Arnab just say that you are joking or is it a satire, how else you can compare Rajesh Khanna with Salman!!!

I am 100% percent sure that you have not seen any Rajesh Khanna movies or a die hard fan of Salman, who never look beyond him.
