Ofcourse parents are Gods because they are your creators and there are no harm in treating them as Gods. Yes, there are times when parents decide everything of children without considering children's views and likes. But then thats just little part of the relationship. On the bigger part, they give so much happiness and sacrifice for their children that we come to know feeling of love, care and relationship from parents only. However, children these days have lost the respect and value of their parents love because the parents have given them too much freedom and have allowed themselves to pamper to the likes and dislikes of children. As such, children are slowly forgetting to respect elders and be compassionate for them. Parents and elders have become a burden for them in their today's fast paced life. Now wonder, one finds more and more old age homes being required in India slowly. Dear Zindagi potrays the story of not ever child of India, but of the little percentage of rich people's spoilbrats.
Parents (atleast mine) are the scums of the Earth.
Firstly they did an arranged marriage since they could not find a partner of their own - especially my father. Since he was a rat.
Then he married my Mom who was a Gem. He tortured her badly by not communicating with her and she has suffered from unbelievable bodily ailments and operations all simply because she hates him.
Finally this so called father of mine is jealous of his Son's progress. He tried to destroy my marriage and is delighted in torturing me.
My life is now almost destroyed at my early thirties.
Finally at his middle age he one day telephones me and tells me - Look I have made many mistakes in my life but now after 1-2 years I need your help in taking care of me in every aspect.
Can anyone please tell me (irrespective of your religious beliefs), What rights do children have in this country of ours -India. Parents can do anything and everything to the children and the same children whose lives have been destroyed respect their parents.

You appear to be quite sensitive film maker and thoughts of your own. "Tolerated" English Vinglish once again yesterday, under the new nuances brought forward by you. I still think that choice of Shridevi (with a fragile, child like voice and botox-ed expressionless face)spoils the film. Just imagine Tabbu in place of Shridevi and you may understand what I mean ..... (BTW do you read rediff? he he ...)
Asking children to touch elder's feet is not disrespect to children, this is making a child respect elderly people, when the child grows he receives same kind of respect. It looks like the directory is wanted to lift an issue out of custom and take some credit. Foolish

Rightly said. Children touching parents or elders feet is not restricting their freedom or being treated as slave. In fact, bending and touching parents feet teaches children to be humble and respect elders and the feeling of love transports from parents to children.
She really is confused. Once she says a lot about children being respected and bla bla bla and ends it with "We always think about the parents, not the children." Then suddenly she says "The biggest job in the world is to parent someone."
She herself acknowledges that parenting is the biggest job, but what she doesn't understand that that's the main reason why parents are treated like Gods.
I did not like "English Vinglish", but that was mainly due to (Botox-ed rigid expressionless, face) Shridevi's acting. But it appears that this lady thinks .... for good or for bad .... let's give her another chance !!
