Salman's verdict
by Jagirdar Ananth on May 07, 2015 01:46 PM

Sir,

There is no doubt that the judgement is right, but the problem is it is very late, about 13 years of admitting it, during this period what had happened with the victims is a question mark.

My appeal is the procedure of awarding punishments to the convicts should be minimum time say within an year or so.

Well deserved verdict
by Ram swamy on May 07, 2015 12:55 PM  | Hide replies

Considering the gravity of offences Salman had done the punishment is too little owing to the following facts which the prosecution had established before the court?
1. Driving without a valid licence
2. Driving under the influence of alcohol
3. Running from the scene
4. Fabricating all false stories before the court.
Under the above circumstances 5 years jail terms is less should be put behind bars atleast for 10 years.
Does his lawyer think that paying income tax and doing charity will influence the court to reduce the terms? As a responsible citizen it is his duty to pay taxes as per the law. Court cannot extend any relief or take a lenient on this counts. He has been proved guilty and the judge has punished him what he deserves.

Basic issue what is compensation to sufferer, Do not agree with you at all, first either mutual consent or court intervention-compensate the victims. Then punish for the above offences as usual. No need to drag 13 years in lower court, where bribe is expected for dragging, now higher court-another 5 years as a minting place.
We condemn such laws, which do not provide immediate justice to sufferers.

Justice?

Justice delayed is Justice denied.Five years is too harsh. After all,he has not done intentionally. If someone cmes in your way and you knowck him down, you are not responsible.People sleeping on roadside cannot expect that no one can touch them.Compensation given is adequate which the court itself has said.

Justice was denied to the victims for 13 years, delayed by the defence. The sole witness, the Body Guard, was suspended from police, thrown out from home, died to TB on the Road. Is it justice. The poor should not sleep on pavements as the rich have a license to drive on it in posh cars in drunken state- is it?

No one punish poor they break traffic rules daily, everywhere LIG, MIG or rich are punished. Police/court see only paying capacity or fame in media, are not concerned with law enforcement.
We travel in NCR on each border one can see minimum 50000 people break traffic rules.

Punishment is too hard or too late is entirely different issue but what played against him is that after the accident he disappeared from the scene and probably tried to escape from the Law & thats how the law looks at the case. Had he only tried to gather composure and tried to take the injured to the Hospital & also surrendered in front of the police, immediatley after the incident, he would have possible got some leniency. But all the rich people & celebrities should remember is that they can afford a driver & in having a driver, they will be not only saving themselves from embarrassment but they will provide livelihood to some poor man and also save the lives of others. Though Salman has done several good deeds, all those are shadowed by only because he ran away from the scene shirking his responsibility towards the injured.

Too little too late
by Ramanath Babu on May 07, 2015 10:24 AM

while the bollywood is solidly behind the cuprit and blaming the victims, at least majority of the netizens feel that it is too little, too late as is evident from the opinion poll conducted by you. He has a case against him for killing the black buck in Rajasthan. Whether it is human, animals or birds, it doesn't make much difference for Salman - he thinks these are all his toys to play with. Surprisingly, there are lot of educated illiterates here to support him on his actions! Strange are the behaviour of Aam Aadmi of India. they have three sets of rules for different people. One for the people they like, one for those who are not in their favourite list, and the third set of rule is for themselves.I AM RIGHT, WHAT EVER I DO OR SAY IS RIGHT.
