Katyar Pathit Khupasli

This is the review I was looking for. The writer has seen through the insidious web of communalism woven by the makers of the film. To defile the memory of a gentle masterpiece, and produce a caricature of the endearing Khansaheb is an act of sheer cultural vandalism..and the stereotypes it promotes...like the scheming Britisher...all this was never envisaged in the classic...it's sad that the 2% marathi middle classes applaud this infantile movie with such abandon...

We went to watch 'Katyaa....' with an open mind. But what we watched was a pathetic distortion of Darvekar's design and characters.

In the original Khan Saheb is NOT a villain - he gets our sympathy. He is a helpless, human and humane person, tied down by the rigid rules of his gharana of music and his pride in it. So he will not accept Sadashiv as his disciple but longs for a 'shagird' of Sadashiv's calibre.

The character of Sadashiv is also distorted in the film. The original Sadashiv yearns and thirsts only to learn music. He is a small-town lad who had to wait till his father passed away to come to meet Panditji.

The music in the film is, the hero' but the rest is a sad distortion of a regal structure.

As on connoiseur of drama and films put it: " The play, 'Katyaar...' is like the original Taj Mahal. it is unique. The film claims to be based on the play, but what you actually get to see is only Biwi ka Maqbara". Some designs have to be left untouched. You move a brick and the entire structure collapses. That's what has happened to the film, regretfully.

Wonder why it had to be made into a 'masala' film! It is especially saddening because all those involved in the making of the film are themselves actors and people with tremendous understanding of the craft.

The play , Katyaar Kaljaat Ghusli

The play Katyaar... has a very human, humane and helpless Khan Saheb, who is bound by his Gharana. He admires Sadashiv\'s singing and longs for a disciple of Sadashiv\'s calibre, but cannot accept him as a \'shagird\' because he has got his initial training from Panditji. As a traditional singer, Khan Saheb fears the adulteration of the style of his gharaana by Sadashiv whose style mixes the two styles. There was no need to make Khan Saheb into a villain. Even the original character of Sadashiv has been distorted, making the character lose the viewer\'s sympathy.

As one connoiseur of Marathi plays and films put it: \"The play is the original Taj Mahal; the film is like seeing Biwi ka Maqbara, pretending it is the original.\"

Some designs are best left untouched.Move a brick and the entire structure collapses.

Hero is music and the actors are powerful characters.
This character brings originality of play with their superb acting.
Movie does not show any message against any particular caste peoples.
It only gives message to every human beings to remove own ego.
Because one day ego had to face as a loser in life
