He realized after getting freedom from British, Singapore as a small colony would not survive and it needs a hinterland just like Kashmir to survive on their own else either Malaysia or Britan would swallow it. During invasion, one Japanese soldier called Lee and asked him to knell down, Lee said he didn't knew we had to bow in front of Japanese as respect, he then kicked his boot off to Lee on ground, Lee said the Japanese taught me what power meant and it was then start of politics and said we must be in charge of own lives and said only politics can determine people's destiny
After independence from Malaysia, Lee decided in case of future invasion like Japan, Singapore needs to be ready for any combat and this every teenager in Singapore after 18 years has to devote good amount for army so that during war, whole Singapore would be defender of their nation.

Some people say Singapore has crazy strict laws and country is quite different and strict and no freedom of speech, but with such as small island with no resource and such volatile neighbours like Veitnam, Camboadia, Indonesia and malaysia during those time, Singapore story of not only surviving as a small tiny nation, but transforming it into an economic boom has full of interesting stories and barriers. They were lucky to got Lee Kuan Yew as their Prime Minister, else Singapore would have been dead now with illiterate chinese fisherman base.
The reason Singapore success story is so unique, they defied each and every challenge which came their way and they not only tacked it efficiently, but they turned others weakness as their strength to march ahead... Simply amazing

Their newspaper headlines are dominated by what kareena thinks of children and Saif and why Katrina is shying from marriage? Oh yes, recently Deepika PAdukone created awareness amongst these people for TOI publishing about her revealing dress. These people like to hear about Sunny Leone....

Our newspapers are dominated by Kareena/Katrina/Deepika unlike TAM1L newspapers showing wailing/chest-beating LUNAT1X when jeyalalitha was sentenced.

What is portrayed in a movie happens in real life, these old men will be trashed and put in a lock up. However AK to promote his movie is using the wrong platform. Films are for entertainment and all that happens in the movie may or not be true.
