why do all serious films that these directors make have to use a lot of expletives, cuss words, more than half the characters having a degraded, amoral or criminal mentality? are they any way representative of the world that we live in? they are simply making the society insensitive to negativeness in human character and can end up being potentially dangerous to the society.
most of these movies directed by people like anurag kashyap, dhulia and sudhir mishra not only have no plot, but worse they dont have any social message either.
It does not mean that useless and unrealistic American films are superior to Indian films. Sixth sense did not make any sense to me. It looked more unrealistic than an Indian film, heavily covered up by special effects. I was not impressed with "The Sixth Sense" of Manoj Night Shyamalan; and I thought it was a big hype. Some Indian films would make a lot of sense if we cut out some of the senseless song and dance sequences.

Useless and unrealistic? The sixth sense is a combo of drama, suspense and psychological horror - expecting realism in a horror film is the definition of unfair.
Okay you want realism, movies like Grapes of wrath or depiction of a POW camp in Stalag 17 is probably not going to work in India.
All three movies, the above two and Sixth Sense scored 8.1 or 8.2 on IMDB and were big commercial successes.
Anurag Kashyap is right in stating that neither the people nor the government take films seriously. The reason behind this is the fact that Indian films are made with song and dance sequences and fantasy stories, completely disconnected from reality. The films are often made with a lot of intellectual dishonesty, and are specifically meant for morons and illiterates. This is not the way British and American movies are made. That is why sane people do not take Indian films seriously.
