You are right Joginder the music may not be well received by Hindi Audience. For example If you play shenoy music in a south Indian wedding or ritual, it wont be well received by the audience as the audience feel its for mourning. Not sure why Rahman did not realize this.

Obviously it will be hit in Tamil nadu. Even if a rajnikanth movie had nursery rhymes, that would be made superhit by his fans in south india.

drunken monk this movie script is 400 yrs old from south than you cant have a diff tone to it as if its happening currently...
Joginder, when you say for tamil audience (mention that Rahman has included the classical south Indian instruments in music for a period film and for the situation)
are good. The rest of them are average. Manamaganin and manapenin has same flavors with the scale difference and the lyrics. More apt for a marriage scene in the movie if u visualize.
