15 lakhs eh
by AN INDIAN on Jul 22, 2014 07:14 AM  | Hide replies

Good gesture by Rakesh Roshan but each floor in the post building must be worth at least 10 - 15 crores. By that measure 15 lakhs by all the building owners is mere pittance - not even 1 lakh per floor. In USA the wife could have sued the builders and even the owners for not putting in sprinklers for 100's of millions dollars. India has to improve. Just sick of our corrupt leaders. India needs a revolution for things to change - Modi government will do nothing. Maybe Kejriwal and his dharnas are the best option we have left. Modi has increased military spending manifold. Whatever happened to the promises of building toilets.

It may not be a lot, but it came right now, unlike the gov comp of 1 lakh which will come in 15 yrs after a 50% cut.

FIRE IN HIGHRISE
by abhay narayan on Jul 21, 2014 11:57 PM

Its high time we redraft the policy for giving NOC to high rise buildings. Worst situation is of Highrise buildings of SRA (slum rehabilitation). Fire rules are openly flouted and towers are permitted for more than 10 floors. SRA buildings have no surrounding places, very high FSI is granted (FSI of 5 ) and in addition TDR is permitted to be used. With all such gimmicks effective FSI is over 8, which is ridiculous. How highrise committee approves such buildings plan?

In case o Lotus Business park, there was provision for Helicopter landing, but there are several buildings exceeding 20 storied towers, allowed to be constructed with small width which may not be even 30 ft wide where all rules are flouted and in emergency there is no possibility of rescue by helicopter.
Recently I saw a building coming up in Laxmi Nagar, Goregaon, near Bangur Nagar on Link Road which is 35 storied tower of SRA, and width of hardly 30 ft with over 200 ft length. There is no possibility of Fire engine entering in building as the builder has constructed building from boundry wall to boundry wall. I am sure he must be using FSI of over 10. Thanks to corrupt BMC officials and the system.
If such buildings are permitted, how one can expect fire brigde to work in emergencies?

Life in india is very cheap thanks to mismanagement by higher ups ( including Govt). Once everyone understand the value of it they would do whatever it need to be done to save it...
