What does 'Garu' mean? Obviously, it is a form of respect.

All Indian languages' grammar has something called VIBHAKTI (like Prathama, Dwitiya, Tritiya etc., which stand for Primary, secondary, tertiary respectively which are mostly adjuncts to the Dhatu i.e. the Root word.

In this language the primary vibhakti starts from 'Du' which is singular. The plural version is 'Ru'

Similarly in Tamil perhaps an equivalent is 'An'

So, in this language the Root word Raam becomes RaamuDU while in Tamil it becomes RaamAN.

In all languages most manners are addressing a singular person in plural as a matter of respect; atleast in this language.

When some people address themselves, they used to address themselves instead of I as WE.

In this language gaRU means a plural denomination and hence respectable; the same one when addressed as gaDU which is singular is near abuse
