"She was my entire universe". It has gone into myself and feel how tradgic it is to face the reality. MMS has said every thing in one sentence - a legend of Cinema Suchitra Sen was for entire India the place she had drawn with acting prowess. I liked Sushitra Sen from 'Devdas' her acting - her sobriety in reality. May her soul rest in peace and give strength to bereaved family to bear irrparable loss. With sympathies.

moreover due to practical reasons, we are not comfortable to make good rapport with either with our children or parents...it is difficult to conclude that who to blame...
I have seen many of her films and it never occurred to me that she was a talented actress. She was pretty, but not talented actress. There were many actress who were much better than her in terms of acting, e.g. Madhabi, Aparna Sen, Arundhuti, Supriya, etc. They knew acting in various roles, but she could only act in certain romantic role and also mostly with Uttam Kumar. I am not here to criticize her because she has passed away and I pray for her soul rest in peace. But if you want to talk about acting capability, I would put other contemporary actress of Bengali movie industry at much higher position. My personal opinion about why she left industry is that, I believe she realized that she did not have that beauty to mesmerize people when she got older and she knew she didn't have much talent, so she had to retire. People remember her because of her beauty, not because of her acting.

I agree with this assessment. This is not a reflection on the human being - it is a critique of the actress. Against Uttam Kumar, it was always very much evident to those who cared to look beyond her beauty that she was certainly not an actress of the highest order. Her contribution to Bengali cinema is immense in other ways - she stood her ground as a women in the 50s shoulder to shoulder with the male giants of her age and paved the way for many actresses.

if you really want to see her range as actress see two hindi movies 'Bambai Ka Babu' with Dev Aanand & 'Mamta'with Ashok Kumar. It might change y'r opinion
