No ideals can restrict growth if you can harness them with clean and selfless mind.
The only thing this movie 'Gandhi' focused the world's attention on, was India's poverty!
'Gandhi' was the first movie in the poverty p0rn0graphy genre!
All it did was make the world feel sorry that even after 35 years of Independence and concentrated doses of socialist programs and schemes, India continued to remain a revolting picture of misery and poverty!
How this is something to be proud about is baffling!
Why is Indian media filled with brain-dead m0r0ns who cannot tell the difference between commendation and condescension of white people?!

Well said Dirgahpattan Sinha!
I think this author is still stuck in the 70s and 80s, feeling romantically disillusioned with a foreign filmmaker and that too a british one at that, he could be a great, i dont care! It is very saddening to see that people like the author are more concerned about Mr. Attenborough bringing the focus on to India! Seriously?? is India some Ethipoia or a sierra Leon that India needs the world's attention? yes India has problems BUT which country does not!
People like this author stuck in the past are what are NOT required for this new generation.I know you would be upset that your wonderfully poetic article is met with such criticism but I would ask what did YOU do to bring the focus back on to India? other than romantically yearning for a foreign inspiration! do YOU really know about India and Indians?
Please stop eulogizing about foreigners and start looking at India for what it actually is.
