But the truth is "at least in this case" it did reflect how we are the victim of such values when family and relatives " the immediate society of ours" comes in to the picture.. "shockingly regressive "is perhaps not the right word for the wrong situations we "so called" modern ,educated graduate for esteem colleges and institutes face when we enter the institution called Marriage. Our social structure is as such weaved that when it comes to our parents such progressive lecture doesnt always wok... Having being a part of a story which is no different from mine I would refrain from the critic who saw only one side of the coin ... how about the progressive attitude the two involved carried on through out in bringing their parents come out of their nut shell of values ...the only thing they hold on to and gets conditioned when we move out to make a career else where
The author sits in New York an imagines an India that doesnt exist. Everything portrayed in the film is absolutely true and exists even today. Please travel from Manhattan to Mylapore and see for yourself what peoples values are.
Typical spineless indian folks who react emotionally without understanding the substance of the author. The author meant that one should have the spine to stand up to their parents when they are doing OBVIOUSLY wrong things, not as a matter of routine. And if someone just bows down his or her head and acts according to mummyji or daddyji even after standing on their own 2 feet, its nauseating and sickening. Atleast the men should grow a pair of b**ls and be man enough to decide for themselves.

I agree, this is typical media pushing western values on Indians. Anything non western is considered regressive.
These journalist are in their minds having an inferiority complex.
