world is too big and had been survived through the joint efforts of many...and had rarely be affected with the changes over a period of time though many new good concepts too have been invented any of which are being criticized too...BUT overall change is necessary...
Great talent, but never understood his sticking to unintelligible Farsi/Urdu words and phrases. He should have promoted Hindi, instead of pandering to Pakistanis.

That is exactly the mentality, which is making Urdu vanish from India. Many ignorant people believe Urdu is Pakistani (Muslim) language, but if for a moment they see the history, they will notice that the many well know Urdu writers/poets were Non- Muslim. Her are few name for their information Prem Chand Krishan Chander. Rajindra Singh Bedi Dr. Kaniya Lal Kapoor Malik Ram

how is Urdu vanishing from India..most movies are in Urdu, all songs are in Urdu...Paki funded Bollywood makes only Urdu movies...Hindi, the Devanagri script have all vanished from Pakistan..btw Urdu has been practically banned in Bangladesh.
Gulzaar is not only a great lyricist, poet ( love almost all of his songs) but one of the finest director ever.
The Gulzar – Sanjeev Kumar partnership resulted in some very good films (Koshish, Aandhi, Mausam, Angoor, Namkeen) which represent Sanjeev Kumar's finest work as an actor.
His other movies liked very much are Kitaab, Maachis, Ijazat, Mere apne & Parichay.
It's a pity that he doesn't direct any movies these days :((
I Feel Lucky in the era of Gulzar,Yasji, Dilip, Amitabh Darmendra, DevAnand, Pancham, So many Stars, but I like Gulzar most because of Mirza Galib and other great things, He is a different personality on earth.
Mr.Gulzar doesn't deserve this award. If he deserves it then what about the great Sahir Ludhiyanvi,Shalendra,Shakeel,Hasrat,Rajendrakrishna,Indeevar,Anand Bakshi etc? Yes it is true that there are few good songs written by him but 'beedi jalaiele..' is also by him !! The motive behind conferring this award to him seems to be something else !!

Singh saab, the award's certainly not been conferred to him for penning lyrics only. The man is multi-talented.

Singh Ji, I don't think award is for a song writer. if it is than i agree with Gulzar comes last in the list you mentioned. I Believe award is as a Director and Song writer. In that category he deserve it.
it might be almost impossible to wisely rank among top 5/10 singers, lyricists, music composers .... though practically few might be getting better weightage...
