Europe were his melodious songs(heard on my tape recorder those days). Tribute to him is hearing to those wonderful songs again and again. Amazing voice and sung with amazing ease. There won't be another Manna Dey. Truely a great singer. There were kishore kumars, there were mohammed rafi's but some how I liked Manna Dey's Songs more, probably because no one could ever reach the classical level in the film industry as he did.

Manna Dey

The immortal Manna Dey was a great singer but as it is observed that he did not get that much popularity that other singers of his time got it. May be because his accents might not be as pure as other singers, since he was born and brought up in Bengal. Any way he was above all the singers. Dhiru Mistry

No doubt Manna Dey is a great singer. but media and people of India generally do not know much about the people of the four states lying to the south of Vindhyas. They have good singers they may not be better than the singers of Northern India but as good as them. Media is always obsessed with Hindi.

I have heard Yesu Das,Balasubramaniam,P B Srinivas, soundarajan etc. Yesu Das is a good singer(more on the classical mould as Manna Dey is), S P is a very versatile singer but both of them could not establish themselves in hindi because of their pronounciations. Yesudas in fact has sung many good numbers in chitchor and some good songs like ka karu sajani in hindi. Balasubramaniam was less successful in hindi, but both of them have sung many tamil, telugu and kannada songs which have been very popular. Balu\'s Shankarabharanam songs are infact superb and so is Ysudas\'s kannada move songs of malaya marutha. Balus\' songs of payanangal mudivudillai were raging hits during those days. P B S had such a melodious voice. His kannada songs sung for Rajkumar were superb, espeicially songs picturised on rajkumar for nandi. Soundarajan\'s songs were popular with MGR fans. People do know and appreciate that but you should really hear songs of Manna Dey too. If you are a true music lover you would immediately admit that Manna Dey was a real class. He was less popular than Kishore,Mohammed Rafi,Yesu Das,Balasubramaniam and PBS but his songs were really so very melodiously rendered that you would not forget them in a hurry. Music transcends boundaries my friend. You should hear them all to respect it.
