give consolation to family and confidence to budding singers

Some bong become defensive some bong become offensive. Some bong become neutral and try to rate Manna de against others.
For once, just rise above and remember the works of this man and pay homage to his skills instead of being possesive and sentimental about him. Put only positive comments and give consolation to family and confidence to budding singers.

It seems strange that the daughter who is based abroad and is reasonably prosperous finds it difficult to foot her father,s hospital bill & then blames the West Bengal Chief Minister to intervene in what is a family dispute. Don't think she realizes how much her father is esteemed by music lovers in India and in Bengal.

Amit, Mann Dey has two daughters. One is abroad that not made it to final rituals and other who was with dad to take care of him. Irrespective of whether someone is capable of paying the bills or not, Didi government should have addressed the concern. What is the point in giving respect after the death of an iconic artist that they did not reciprocate it when he was alive?

Did his being held in 'high esteem' help him in getting justice when was swindled and robbed off his cash? What were Bengalis doing when this news came out? (Yes, it did appear on the web some time ago). How many Bengalis rallied behind their 'beloved' Manna da to help him get justice. It seems that Bengali sentiments get awakened only upon his death!

It is immaterial whether or not his daughter can foot his bills (she might well have done so!). The point is about getting justice.

His daughter should have taken the body to Bengal. Manna Dey belonged to entire Bengal and India. She deprived the people of Bengal of having the last darshan of their beloved hero. Whatever her differences with Mamata, this was not the time to carry grudges. More than Bangalore, Kolkatta had a right over Manna Dey and she has done injustice to the people there.

First of all, I don't understand what this "hero" thing is all about. Second, he has been living in Bangalore for the past couple of decades (or more). I know this because his home was just a few houses away from my home, in Bangalore. He never said he was a hero and he never felt sorry about staying in Bangalore. I would request all to stop this n0nsense and mind their own business.

By commenting here shows that you are not minding your own business! Those who don't understand the feelings of the Bengales should not comment.

Bangaloreans never respected him. No State funeral for him from Karnataka Govt. since he was a non-Kannada. Bengal did send their MP to attend the funeral but none from Kranataka Govt. Only 70 mourners attended in Bangalore. He was a great man in saying that he was not a "hero" and for people in Bangalore, he was a no hero either.

abinder sharma, may be worth to know few facts before jumping to a conclusion. read Banaglore edition news papers for you appreciate the support of local government and people of Bangalore. That might help you to correct your narrow minded attitude. By the way, Manna Dey is singer of this country and not any specific state alone. Check who are his cosigners in the last 5-10 years in his programs. You will surprised to see series of names of Bangaloreans!

Daughter is a moron ...
by sudip majumder on Oct 24, 2013 09:18 PM  | Hide replies

She neither gets not understands the sentiments of Bengal diaspora about the legend. Just because she is the daughter does not entitle her to crush everyone s sentiment. Anyway she grew up in US files cases against his cousin shows scant respect to the court hearing the case, reasonably rich and certaiy can afford to foot the bill but will not do that (what a creep) ... Sorry the last rites of Manna Dey should have been with full state honors but unfortunately the moron and the hot headed daughter did not allow that. Shane in being. Daughter of such a legend.

Manna Dey's honour is more important than Bengal's sentiments. His birth place may have been Kolkata but his karma bhoomi was Mumbai. Mamta government did nothing help Manna da when he was alive and when he passed away, made a cheap attempt of getting public goodwill through a royal funeral. Mamta deserves to be spat upon!

so what happened to the sentiments when Mamata and kolkota police commissioner refused and rejected the legendary singer's family's please ?

And what Bengali sentiment are you talking about ? Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was declared a traitor by your communist dumbheads. Your Pranab Mukherjee was involved in the act of hiding Netaji files. And who among you is remembering Aurobindo Ghosh or Swami Vivekananda ?

West Bengal is lost to commie shady pseudo-secular ideology.

I'm sorry to hear that there are a few puny brains who think that
allying with enemy's enemy as Netaji did to free mother India
'are not much really appreciated'.
