Absolutely. In that case there are several character artists across the pan-Indian film industry, who have acted in hundreds of movies and have in their way 'contributed' to cinema (take veteran Tamil actress Manorama for instance, who, after having acted in close to 1500 films, is still going strong, despite her frail health). The late Nilu Phule from Marathi cinema never got due recognition from these award committees. Singers like Janaki and Susheela who are in their 70s now, have each sung more than 40,000 songs across all Indian languages. They are not even given a Padma Vibhusan. When Saif Ali Khan gets a National Award for Best Actor for a film like Hum Tum and is followed by a Padma Shri, you can imagine the real value of these awards.
Good that Pran got it when he is still alive. Others may not be as lucky (or do the real deserving ones really care?)
I think Pranji had stopped acting for long back, and the award is given for all his contribution to the CINEMA, why it require so much time to recognize and give award at the fag end of life. If the award is given at the right time things may still differ.
Late never than before, this legendary icon deserves this award. Good gesture from UPA2 to send their ambassador, Mr. Manish Tiwari to his residence. It is indeed an honor. Salute to the wonderful roles we have been seeing him on big screen for ages.

'Late never than before' instead of 'Better late than never' I presume is a dig on UPA2; otherwise Rahul's language is perfect - no question or chance of blaming it on poor english ;)
