"A Wednesday" is a well-made film. Dont call it realistic. They way police functions and the politicians take quick decisions and they way Nasseruddin Shah handles those complex instruments with ease and planting bombs inside the police headquarters - are all very cinematic and far from realism.

Marvellous 80-90s
by A A on May 06, 2013 10:32 AM

1980-90 was great period in Indian cinema, a lot of revolutionary changes happened, entire definition of cinema was re-written, the parallel cinema supported by great bunch of actors Nazirudin Shaw, Om puri, Kulbhushan Kharbandha, Smita Patil,Shabana Asmi, and directors Govind Nihalani,Keten Mehta, Girish Karnad, etc in all regional languages the best films occurred in 1980-90s,after the globalisation, India began to move money making ways, throwing is basic principles to winds, gone the middle class ethics and insistence of truth and helpfulness to others in the society. UPA2 lead us to shameless state of scams and shameless way to grab and stick to power at any cost. Nowadays films are made on huge budgets, high visuals, stars paid crores but no substance in the movies, many of them degraded to skinshows. Even those skin shows doesnt entertain people.

or Id10ts?
Just look at this message board. Full of Id10ts trying to fight with each other. Those Id10ts don't even realize that they are wearing an identity that was given to them at birth. It wasn't their choice. Why fight for something that you didn't even ask for?

I have no hopes for India

Rating fully justified for a Kolkattan
by Krish on May 03, 2013 11:22 PM  | Hide replies

For a Kolkattan anything Indian means hindi and Bengali, so naturally he wouldn't know what south indian films are. Frankly Holi is not even a film worth watching, but guys this is just some one's personal opinion. Doesn't reflect on popular opinion.

I respect Dibakar's choice
by Janarddan on May 03, 2013 11:20 PM

Those were the ones within his knowledge.

I suggest viewers to have a look at

Nirmalyam (Malayalam 1973)

Chomana dudi (Kannada 1975)

Veedu (Tamil 1986)

Some of these may be available on you tube.

Correct Hindi movies have come to show some standards only recently. Dibakar is one of those who made it possible for Hindi cinema. His Love S e x Dhokha is a shaking experience. All this while any decent cinema from India had to be from Bengal, Kerala, Tamilnadu or Karnataka. I shudder to remember the Jitendra starrer trashes of 1980s. I thank heavens that time is flowing forward and not backward.
