Mili is one of those hrishidas classic in human relations ,the chemistry between amitabh and jaya is awesome, it is really a emotional film, one of my favorite of amitabh. It was hrishada who brought out the emotional and romantic as well as the humor out of the angry young man, be it anand ,mili or chupke chupke amitabh was great. The role of milis father played by ashok kumar was excellent ,it shows both the grief of the father as well as the concern and love for the child.i too hopes and still believe that mili was cured and lived hapilly. This is one my my favourite film

Not ur fault...Tamil Nadu is basically another country in itself & doesn't consider itself as part of India...So sad to hear that u hv never heard of Amitabh & Jaya Bachchan

Is this article about Genmini Gnaesan or Shivaji Ganesan or Mili and Hrishikesh Mukherjee??

Yup Raman. These foolish Tamils are enslaved to either US or then Srilanka. No wonder the crafty Lankans have made them pawns in a (covert) ethnic war with India.
Thanks Sukanaya for your efforts in bringing back the memories of the classic period in Bollywood. It would be further appreciated if rediff is able to bring regional classics also back to life from underneath the long forgotten dusty covers...As for Hrishi Da's films, they are forever etched in my mind !!
Hi Sukanya, I have been reading your reviews over the past 13 years and as usual you have outdone yourself. Your review is as moving and sensitive as the movie itself. Very sharp observations about Hrishida's favorite themes, locales and settings and his ability to bring out the best out of his cast. Also thanks for paying tribute Yogesh's awesome penmanship. Too bad he did not get the credit and volume of work he deserved. Is he still alive ?
any yesteryear movie is hailed as a classic..the other there was a movie Aawaragardi starring superstars Hemant Birje and Aditya Pancholi being shown under the "Classics" section..ROFL..
Most of the so called classics are nothing but pandering to sheer nostalgia..very few movies are timeless and Mili surely is not one of them..

You sir are entitled to your opinion and I don't think you are wrong in saying these days even movies made during the mad, bad, sad 80's are hailed as classics.
The one difference between Mili and the one's you've mentioned is that Mili was directed by the inimitable Hrishikesh Mukherjee whereas the others were directed by people we don't even remember today, surely that counts for something right?
In this review the reviewer has not pandered to anyone or anything if at all she/he has been very objective in comparing that movie to the others directed by this director so only thing that the reviewer can be accused of is that this seems like a repertoire of the director rather than a objective movie review

Not sure about classic status, but never miss this film is telecasted on TV. Treat the watch. Performances, dialogues, screenplay, everything seems just so perfect.
