And the other Indian film makers who were invited make masterpieces?

Bollywood is nothing more than glorified brothel!

It has nothing to do with real cinema!

There are 30 languages in India. Languages have been root cause of India being divided for centuries. At least at some point learn to act as one nation. Also Prabhudeva was there from south.Don't make this regional issue.

There should be a provision to bring the best directors and artistes of Bengali cinema, Marathi cinema, Tamil cinema,Telugu cinema,Malayalam cinema,Kannada cinema,Bhojpuri cinema and Odissi cinema for occasions like this.

That would be a fair representation of Indian cinema and will also help in bonding between the different cinema streams in India, and honing of their crafts and skillsets by learning from the best of other fields.

@ Hun Horror,
How is it that Bollywood has represented, the national conscience of the Nation, it only embodies and personifies the punjabi/ up bihar cultures.
I guess these are not the only cultures in India.
Your argument is akin to saying that every one should become hindus, despite India being a pluralistic entity religion wise

All we are saying we dont want representation of regions like cricket. But respect best directors irrespective of language, religion etc.

we know about Gandhi and Bhagat Singh as freesom fighters. How many from north knows Thiruppur Kumaran, Bharathiar, Tippu Sultan or Alluri sita rama raju to name a few. See India as one nation, not just one language

Spielberg did not see his mirror
by Venkat on Mar 12, 2013 04:47 PM  | Hide replies

Time and time again, bollywood behaves arrogant and secluded nation. Not sure if Anil knows south india than Ang Lee. It is a shame that Mani Ratnam, known as Spielberg of India not on the list of invitees. He is just an example, how India is divided in every sense, be it Bollywood to Politics. Prove me wrong guys

Venkat, I never knew that Mani Ratnam was Spielberg of India.

Do you mean he was a copy cat of Spielberg movies? Don't insult Steven Spielberg by comparing him with Mani Ratnam.

There are directors in India who are far better than Mani Ratnam. So succcccck it up and learn to live with it.

I am afraid you are wrong. Both the directors are great. We have no capacity to judge either of them as we are not from the same field. Each of them have proved their brilliance in their own ways.

If you did not see Roja, Bombay, Yuva to name few hindi films of Mani, you cannot coment on Steven Spielberg. Shame on you.

How can Prabhu Deva be a better director than Mani, he is there because he moved to Mumbai and now belongs to Bollywood.

I can see your ignorance when you say Mani copies Spielberg. Ask Spielberg to watch Anjali (tamil), Roja, Mumbai and Thalapathi and Nayagan and you will know Manis value from legend himself

It was Bollywood vs Hollywood. No questions asked !!! There is defintley things not taken in the right perspective, I'm sure they should have got all the known well known credible directors from across India.. That was not done . Thats sad.. Specailly Mani Ratnam .. He is truly a legend and he was not where to be seen!!
