This was the correct and the most perfect choice. Most of other films like sholay was formula movie. When coloured version of Mugal e Azam came in 2004, it was height. The only hindi & most respected film deserved apex rank.
If it has to be one film, and that too, scale and grandeur is one of the factors apart from content, performances, technicalities, then it can be Mughal-E-Azam or Mother India though overall effect-wise, Sholay is also there. But in terms of effect, I would also put 'Anand' into consideration as that is a film which, through its protagonist, effectively demonstrated as to how to live with life in the face of impending death.
