This movie (Ship of Theseus) was extraordinary in raising existential questions about three ordinary lives and providing profound answers. The direction and the story telling, complemented by an occasional levity, beautiful music and breathtaking photography - whether depicting a city\'s gritty realities, nature\'s un-bounded glory, or the climatic allegorical scene of haunting beauty - were masterful. Not to be unkind to another recently released movie where the inherent heroic story of dedication to a goal is matched by an equally dedicated zeal for acting, the way that movie was over-directed almost made it unbearable. This movie, on the other hand, is a product of directorial finesse that skillfully threads together seemingly disparate parts with impassioned understanding of subtle movie-making and an overarching theme of life\'s meaning for the three ordinary protagonists. Each of the three segments shines brilliantly in its own right. The whole, in the end, is truly greater than the sum of its parts that is emotionally overpowering, and a rare and brilliant work of cinematic art. Bravo to the young genius of a director and story-teller of this movie!
Saw this movie yesterday night. Unfortunately it has released only in 2 screens in Pune. Had to go quite far to watch it, but it was worth it. All 3 stories are amazing and they merge in the astounding climax. Every frame was amazing. I was kind of amazed that such kind of cinema can come out of India. Those 2.5 hours I was in a different world, the meaningful debates on the screen and the conversation between Monk Maitreya and Charvaka was so intellectual that it puts you in deep thought. In the end we had a mesmerized audience in the hall. Overall a very good movie and I hope such quality cinema keeps coming.
This ship will have no takers. Empty cinema halls only kiran rao and those who want to be in her good books just to get some benefit from Aamir would see this movie and praise it.
