this is the very best you can do with a movie about Giant Robots (sort of) and bigger monsters. Unlike Transformers the emphasis is not on action alone but time is spent in introducing and making us care for the characters. In fact there are two or three short battles before the superbly executed Hong Kong battle that will just blow you away. The scale of the Robots is beautifully conveyed with shots of helicopeters hovering like flies , weapons of choice being huge cargo containers and memorably a tanker ship. Only problem is the climax which looks like a exact copy of Independence Day right down to the " im goosed' look on the alien's face. Wait for the post credit scene that shows us why Perlman is born to play Hellboy :). The 3d is not so good since most of the scenes are at night and underwater, i feel the 2D version will look much better
