I would not call the film a disappointment but I think the reviewer was spot on with too many flashbacks within flashbacks. Also certain storylines such as Milkha's lovelife did not add to the movie, and there were too many songs. As any sportsman knows winning and losing is about what happens within and not because of the bad guys out to get you. If you want your kids to be inspired that hard work and dedication is the mark of a true sportsman then watch the film. Perhaps it will end the paucity of athletes in a population of billion plus people and their power showing outside of cricket. And yes, Farhan Akhtar really brought his chops to the flick!

It dissapointed you because they dissappointed you ;)

I think the whole movie from start to end is truly engaging at every moment. It may feel longer as the current audience is used to 2hr movies, but there's never a dull moment and don't forget we are celebrating life of a legend which in itself is an inspiration to go watch and get soak in the movie.

May be they did not pay the reviewer like other movies which were praised even if they were ugly. It dissapointed you because they dissappointed you ;)
Grow up and give judicios reviews and not biased ones.

Best biographical movie till date.

I've read your review and I find no resemblance of your words with the movie. The whole Bhag Milkha bhag cast and crew was outstanding but the way you wrote the review seems more like copy-paste than your own words. I'm suffering from severe headache after reading your review.

One request to you Sukanya Verma. Please put aside your personal differences with any crew members of film industry and write some genuine review.

I was there in PVR and I saw corporate guys whistling during various scenes. Something very rare now a days.

You called this movie a disappointment. Take my review for your style of writing: 1/10. And please refer to Our real flying Sikh Mr. Milkha Singh's words after he himself praised this movie.

P.S: Stop calling yourself 'The Dalai Lama of muggles'. You are no match to him.

As you are entitled to your views so is she . Anyways the movie is an average fare . nothing great about it . Infact the first half seriously gives you a headache . It is as if the whole point to prove is that Milkha Singh lost races because of sabotage and not because others were better !!
Milkha lost the Olympic final because he was haunted by partition ??? what nonsense . He lost the race because there were 3 better athletes . Period . Lets accept it and move .
over melodrama . Divya Dutta hams it so much that you feel sick .
Not sure if the movie had an editor and the way the finala race in pakistan is hyped is beyond all logic . The movie just drags on and on and on with no stopping .
Farhan was great but that is all the movie had . At times the movie appeared disjointed , disconnected , better editing would have helped it .
An over the top movie . No doubt Milkha was India's pride but this movie doesnt do justice to him . It shows every time Milkha lost a race he had one excuse or another to offer !!

You have a point. I saw the following flaws in the otherwise good film:
1. I was expecting the director to show the real failure of 1960 olympics - I was nothing to do with parition or the coach shouting Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and he getting disturbed of his past. The actual reason is that he failed to guage others speed and ran very fast for the first 250m, then lost fuel to maintain that till the end and finished 4th. It was his tactical mistake, while others gained. Moroever, he would definitely have not got the GOLD had he run with his full zeal and energy. Otis David (the GOLD winner) ran at 44.9 sec. At the most he would have gotten a BRONZE there.

2. 1960 Olympics final is waht made Milkha very famous and not his rivalry with Pakistan's Adbul Khaliq (remember both were in top10 of theri respective events in the world then).

3. Milkah ran second outermost lane in that fateful 1960 finals and not the outermost lane that the film shows. Big Blunder!!!!

4. Director could have focussed more on his atheleticsm than on his Pakistan melodrama, which I feel was streched to the core.

5. He could have shown the real milkha singhs race footage at the end of the movie (youtube has it - 1958 Commonwealth games and 1960 Rome Olymnpics)

Overall, it was a good film, but to a sports fanatic like me who expected more of a milkha show at the tracks than off it, it was a disappointment.

Dear abc xyz abc xyz Ji,
Thanks for your comments.
If you have so much knowledge about sports, I strongly feel, you should not have gone to watch it as it is made for people who do not know much about Milkha Singh.
Another point, If you start writing stories of your past, you shall also miss minor points such as in which lane you were in track or which road you travelled.
Please encourage people of India to wtch this movie and learn about a Star. Our un-educated brothers have already seen much of Sunny Leone, Poonam Pandey and Veena Malik from Pakistan.
Thanks

I hardly watch hindi movies and I was particular I saw it in a good theatre. I am glad it satisfied me to a good extent and what I mentioned here were some of the minor negatives. I don't encourage people to watch this film, I rather encourage them to watch the real milkha singh and read his book.

This Review indeed needs a review
by gaurav bhatnagar on Jul 18, 2013 09:57 PM

I'm from family with rich sports culture and I can relate things in this movie with an athlete's life. Sukanya Ji can't, may be she don't know ABCD of sports. This is totally biased review. This is awesome movie. Rediff should be cautious in publishing of misleading review. Who will believe this review after watching movie?
