Good interview. But I disagree on one point. There are also better films made on south side especially Tamil and Malayalma movies which can also be considered for oscar and not just the two names Monaj mentioned.

Naserudhin shah is recognized as one of the legends in movies..he has acted in lot of movies, delivering class performances, but there are many others like pankaj kapoor, farooq shaikh, khulbhushan kharbanda etc. who could not get their due..

If you are fat and simple looking doesn't translate into a good actor. The three you have mentioned above, I am not sure which movie did u see where their performance was very good. I remember farooq sheikh coz of umrao jaan. And in that as well, his performance wasn't at all great.

Pankaj Kapoor - Just Rakh hi kaafi hai. Have you seen it? Farooq represented a sober image & was a good choice along with Amol Palekar for sober (non-commercial) kind of movies.
Any person who understands good cinema and has a good IQ can tell that BARFI was not right choice and instead original movies like GOW should have been sent to the Oscars.. I am sure most of the members would have walked out of BARFI screening..
Manoj Bajpai is so right. Almost all mediocre films sent to oscar. This year kahani or GOW must have gone to oscar not barfi. And manoj bajpai is the best actor in bollywood apart from irfan khan but never got his due. If he was in hollywood he would have been given place of honor.
Oscars is only for English and French films and the only categories open for competition are "Best Foreign Language film" and "Lifetime Contribution" awards. Unfortunately Oscar entries also need to do a lot of lobbying and spend money and time to get their movie seen by the Goras and it is possible that the nominations sent by India take into consideration the ability/cavity of the producer to spend more money....
Gangs of Wasseypur is one of the best move I have ever seen. I can easily compare this movie to Scarface, Taxi driver or any other good movie. It was not sent to oscars because a lame movie like Barfi was chosen.

I would love to know who was responsible for making that decision..says a lot about that person's or group's tastes..or rather how desperate they were to make some moolah on the side..

I didn't know that. That should top the list of epic fails. lolz. I am sure many tamils will not agree but anyways
Good actors never got due in Bollywood... atleast nowadays horizons have broadened thus true actors like Manoj Bajpei,Irfan,Nawazuddin getting scopes :)
