Why do we crave for popularity in Hollywood and fame among the fair-skinned? Why do we Indians want to get the stamp of approval from these fair-skinned foreigners? I still remember that in our school we used to have students from different nations visit us.And my schoolmates(suffering from low-confidence or sense of self-pity) used to take autograph from these foreigners.Their only USP is that they have fair skin.Such a poor mentality. Why do we look towards the west with a feeling that we are infereior to them?

sir, while I agree with you for the inferiority complex part, as far as quality of movies go, India still has a long way to go to meet Global standards. I think a major chunk of the current crop of directors who are trying to break the barrier would also agree to this. Instead of investing in original scripts, the people who fund movies in India are more interested in entering some "100-crore" club. Quality matters, and originality is always appreciated.
Guys, all of you are beating up Anupam Kher, some are posting good things, most are posting bad things about his role.
I have seen the movie a couple of days back, and here's the realistic assessment:
- Anupam has a fairly big role. Also, in the end film credits, he gets 4th billing even before Chris Tucker. That is a big achievement. It means, the movie treats him as an important cast member.
- He has fairly evenly spread out scenes. Each scene is not big by itself, and more importantly, he is not really the focus in any of the scenes - mostly it is Bradley Cooper. The only place where Anupam has some focus is during the Eagles Vs Giants game - where some hoodlums try to beat him up for being a Desi.
- The one thing i found disappointing was that if you compare this role to Khosla ka Ghosla, he appears as a very simple, one dimensional character in SLP. If you have watched Khosla, you will instantly agree that his role was author backed and there were amazing layers to it. No such thing in SLP.
Lets say that in SLP, his role is certainly very good - its dignified, he plays a shrink, and nowhere is he being caricatured or being made fun of. His role in SLP is much better than the role Anil Kapoor got in MI4 - that was a blink & you will miss it role.

Poor Anupam! He has been hoodwinked into believing that he had an important role in the movie!
But this is not unusual.
It is really unfortunate to see that many Indians living in foreign countries don't realize that they are being discriminated against or mocked by white people!
Indians who go abroad and interact with white people. They think that simply because white people talk to them , they are appreciated by white people!
This is never the case. White people resent that Indians are smart, good at their work and can easily take their jobs!
The only time white people are really nice is when they are IN India!
But that is more because they don't want to offend the natives and not because they respect Indians!
Most people working in the Indian media are similarly delusional and yearn for white acceptance blindly!
Sad to see an seasoned and excellent actor go gaga over acting with cooper and tucker. Niro is understandable, but cooper is just the latest hollywood female heartthrob and people know tucker only for his over the top antics with chan in rush hour. At best they can be called the imran khan and arshad warsi of hollywood, no where near the better actors of India (which includes Kher)

Sreedhar, Next time I will ask Anupam to consult you even before opening his mouth so that you don't find anything here to feed your microscopic cynical analysis of his opinion.

Wolverine, Its not Anupam's fault. Its the perception problem of Sreedhar.
Just because you appreciate to part of hollywood crew doesn't mean that you are kissing their back sides. This is his inferiority complex speaking here, simple.
Hope you and your team win SAG award!! and do well in Oscars too.. Even if you don't win, you are a good actor.. you are great even in the silliest of roles. Keep up the good work!!

ANUPAM KHER IS A GOOD HUMAN BEING. I WISH HIM MANY MORE SUCCESSES IN LIFE.
To quote Aamir Khan's dialogue from Dil Chahta Hai, "Arre, Mard bann. Be a man". Mr Kher, Don't get deluded by such bit roles in Hollywood movies and think you are the highlight of the film. Remember Anil Kapoor's antics when MI4 was released?
When you have really landed a plum role and it retains the same level of importance in the final version when released, and when we get to see you in promos and your name mentioned by Hollywood reviews, then it warrants such talk. Otherwise, you are better off staying quiet.
Learn from Irrfan. He had a joke of a miniscule role in Spiderman frabchise and he stayed relatively discrete. However his presence in movies like Life of Pi is undeniably big. See the difference?

Well, Ratan is right. It's not about Anupam Kher's acting prowess. His comment was on the actor's 'delusion' that his was such a significant role and going ga ga over it.
learn from irfan..he treats hollywood like just another industry...why are people so hung up on hollywood...we have nasser, om, boman, shabana, sridevi, victor bannergee, ajay and the likes here who are all actors par excellence...why be so hung ho on hollywood..having said that doing movies there is not bad..as irfan has proved
