ARR is talented.. but he is not the original "Mozart of Madras".. that title belongs to the one and only "Chitravina" Ravikiran... he was the real prodigy.. by 2 he cud identify 300 ragas, discovered new ragas, composed music in all melakartha ragas, all 35 thalas , introduced the concept of melharmony.. he is he real genius.. unfortunately many do not know him

To compare and contrast, you need to be an expert in that field. Or else, just you need to keep quiet.
I think S D burman, Madan Mohan, jaidev, Naushad, O P Nayar were better music composer. We need soulful music, melodious songs, which Oscar award winners can not render.

ilayaraja? have u really listened to his musics? all his bgms will be similar. but rahman tries really hard to get bgm different. its a really tough job not just the singing part of the job.

Even ARR composed many soulful music....by the way any music should be occompanied by good lyrics. Ilayaraja had many good lyricists in the 70's, 80's and 90's. By the time ARR started Vaali was the only genius who was left along with Vairamuthu. Also ARR was instrumental in experiementing very many new singers while Ilayaraja was very very conservative sticking only to SPG, Jesudas, Mano or Malaysia Vasudevan, similarly for female singers. ARR made almost every Indian turn and look to south for good music - even the hindi directos stand in queue to get his dates for music.
Most importantly its not wise to compare Ilayaraja with ARR or with SD Burman or Naushad...each of them are masters in their own class. Just one note: i used to be very great fan of Ilayaraja before ARR came out with Roja....i thought he was just a flash in the pan but he proved me wrong.

A true genius with no showoff.
good thing about most of south indian/marathi's are that even when they become celebrity- they are grounded & looks for creativity. It is very rare in north where everyone busy in show-off & copying. BTW i am from north & settled in west. it is simply my observation & hence no bad comments please

Well said Mr.Ashish. Just one comment i do like musicians from North but the only issue is they were before 80's and now its all item songs, dance floor number and remix versions sterotyping the west which are occupying the hindi film industry. Sad story!!! hope they recover soon with a good find.

people. not by him. he is far far better than any composers in this era. rahman is uncomparable. even IR is far far below than rahman now.once i used to tell IR is better than ARR. but that days has gone. Now its sure ARR is better than IR. Ofcourse IR is one of the best but not above ARR anymore. ARR proved a lot
