Sadly our culture is made now by bollywood films, kollywood films and regional language films whcih make us a nation of eve-teasers and rapists! what a shame! Shame our women rights activists and human rights activists and intellectuals are acting as cheer leaders of crooked rulers and looters and bollywood actors and actresses for the past 50 years! It is time that rulers study the reasons for harassment, teasing and violence against girls and women and not make knee jerk reactions only!We need to take more aggressive and logical steps to prevent crimes and rape,etc agsinst women and girls and not just knee jerk reactions,folks! All women and girls are not angels and sometimes they are willing accomplices too! Shame that india has not banned Bollywood and useless and poverty-producing Test cricket even now! Just watch the bollywood and kollywood moveis and one can see the heores openly teasing and harassing girls and women and this has been going on for past 50 years and more too! To prevent rapes and sexual exploitation and harassment of women all over india, first and foremsost bollywood and kollywood movies and masala serials in TV channeles, and obscene and provocative advertisements makins girls and women as sexx objects all the time etc MUST be Banned, No other easy solution to prevent rapes and sexual exploitation and harassment of women now, is any one listening???

Hi Himalya, I am a North Indian and I sadly agree that criminal people from 'western UP', Bihar, Jharkhand commit henous crimes and have given a Bad name to North India. To an extent Bollywood's 'cheap' movies are also resposible. But again I would say that Uttranchal, Himachal, Leh-Kashmir-Jammu followed by Rajstahan (except banjara community) are far much safer than Delhi,UP,Bihar. For Delhi most of the criminals commit crime in othr state and they flee to Delhi start working as Labourer, Kabadiwala, Driver etc and again commit the crime flee back to their state. As stated by Ravi Prasad a database also needs to be created on national level to track and nab the criminals moving across various states committing crime here and there.

Do you really believe that the sole blame for such acts lie on these movies and how the women are portrayed in them? If so, why are there so many crimes against women in the Islamic world, where such movies are banned? These are mere excuses...movies, North and South etc. I guess you have not been following the news on incest and rapes cases in Kerala recently. The main point here is the mind set of the youth. How can that be changed? Luckily there are still many men in the country who watch these movies but they are NOT swayed from the basic notion of right from wrong! I think if we need to move forward, we need to find the blame within ourselves for these crimes, not some external factors such as movies and news. Treating women bad is immoral and disrespectful, and that I suppose each person must be taught at a young age.
Btw, how does me being North Indian or South Indian factor into this discussion? Isn't this an issue faced all over India? Only if you rise beyond the divide can you tackle this issue as a whole.

Tisha I am a bit surprised by your over the top reaction as Himalaya is actually supporting women. Bollywood is as much responsible for this horrendous behavior of men in spite of Sharmila Tagore saying that no study has yet been conducted to gauge its impact on the masses. Actors may claim that they are only showing reality but their lifestyle is also contributing to the mess. Hollywood actors live in a society which is broad minded & respects women but they are certainly not role models for youth anywhere in the world. We have to form our own standards & the media & film industry could take a lead.

I am tired of the blames....rapes and mistreatment towards happen because of the Movie,the culture, the News etc...BUT the biggest question is, how do WE change it? I am not on a high horse there Mr. - I am just sick of talks like this that is quick to lay blame, but really use intellect to tackle the issues. Tell me something new that I don;t know of. Everyone in India know that there is a problem with men in the north. So you say we just keep blaming them and living on with this? I just wish that we could actually think about ways to stop this from happening...Why don't you brainstorm about that than to have such a 'give-up' attitude about the North.

Guys - India is in a transition period - and - our culture is different though we are very fast accepting the western culture - and for some concervative people may not accept it - some people who are new to these may really get sexually affected - we are humans and everyone is affected differently so such things are going to happen - we should take necessary steps to avoid such incidents at the same time educate people against such crime but its rubbish that movies are the reason for such activities

Forget it Trisha, these people who are still playing the blame game. They are after all MEN...they forget that the sole reason for rape to happen are MEN, why blame movies, media, north Indian strata, society (BTW there are so many rape cases happening in south as well!) Why justify on these baseless excuses.
