We go gaga over Oscars as though they are the Olympics of movies. Media is abuzz with 'Indian connection' in the oscars with Anupam Kher, Lincoln, and Life of Pi has some 'Indian connection' or the other.
On the other hand the biggest movie industry of the world could never make beyond 3 nominations for the best foreign picture oscar. That tells a lot about the quality of Indian movies as perceived in the west.
Yet we keep piling on 'entertainer' junk to form a mountain of trash and call it big.
We should probably have our own academy awards which is different from the politically influenced National Awards and the stup!d Filmfare awards. The committee on that awards should select the best Indian movies, performances and technicians from all languages.
No real use with celebrating American movie awards which are made by Americans for a primarily American audience.
