are chootiyeee .....I never said anything bad about sandalwood. And I dont have to prove you my knowledge on Kannada cinema. I know better than most of those who commented out of emotions. I only said, we hardly get to hear about malayalam filsm on rediff nowadays. Dont bring racism into this you fool.

then blame the malayalam rediff journalist who is not publishing mallu articles, why do u want to compare it with kannada articles?

I prefer blaming rediff unit as a whole They ought to ensure all major film industires get adequate coverage.
I wonder how a film industry which hardly contributes about 2% to the total movie revenue in India, gets regular publicity, while their bigger neighbours Malayalam industry is often ignored.
Re: d

My take is that KFI contributes somewhere around 7-9% Because even if you say average budget of a movie is 3 crore and for 100 movies it is 300 crores. The budget of movies of big stars like Puneeth, Darshan, Sudeep, Shivanna, Uppi will be easily more than 10 crores. Most of these recover 40-50% of their budget through TV rights.

NDTV reported Movie business recently as follows: Hindi - 40% Tamil - 26% Telugu - 25% Malayalam - 5% Kannada - 2% Bojpuri/Marathi - 1% Others - 1%
This is the truth and if it hurts, so be it. no regrets whatsover. Between I have booked tickets for Attahasa this weekend at Innovative Multiplex, Bangalore.

Understand the market of sandalwood and mollywood first:
Big Kannada movies release with about 100 prints ( 20 prints in Bangalore, 20 in Mysore belt) and have absolutely no market elsehwere. There has been a few special shows of blockbuster movies (like Jogi, Aptamithra, Jackie etc) at Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and California where lots of Kannadigas work and thats it.
Now take malayalam movies..they release with about 60 prints in kerala, but have a regular release in all metros - Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and tier 2 cities - Pune, Coimbatore, Mangalore. They have a huge huge market in gulf where approx 20 prints get released. Add to that they also have a small release in Europe and US. Add all that, their success rate is much higher and quality is much better than Kannada (who depend on Tamil and Telugu industires for bread and butter..this is truth). Malayalam cinema is known for originality and creativity and they still have it in them, thought the quality is nowhere near what they produced in 70s and 80s. Shakila wave did spoil their name, but they have quickly recovered. Wehreas Kannada industry is strangled with poltics and Rajkumar-family domination thereby people move to other indsutries. Also Konkani regions of KA do not care a damn about kannada cinema and would prefer to watch Tamil movies. Same with the Hubli region, where telugu movies run better.
Bottom line -businesswise Malayalam industry is much bigger than Kannada industry.

u might be right in terms of business, yes malayalam industry has broader market than kannada, but qualitywise you are no exception , from thepast three months you have only deliverd duds, & IN BANGALORE, MUMBAI&PUNE WHAT SHOW timings do u get, only night shows in multiplexes maximum for a week where lesspeople come, if your market &quality was very good, they would have not removed movies for 1 week&only night shows

FOR YOUR PROOF FROM SIFYKerala Box-Office (Dec 1-20)It is a dull period at the Kerala box-office. Nearly a dozen films released in the last three Fridays and all of them bombed

@abc Your views are totally half baked and need more analyssis. Can you give the list of superhit movies in malayalam in 2012 as you are claiming about the quality. Hubli region-Domination of kannada movies where Hindi movies were outlined.ex. Sangollirayanna, Drama Dakshina kannada region-Drama movie superhit Bangalore mysore region- Sangolii rayanna, Drama, addorri superhit movies. Sangolii rayanna crossed 100 days in PVR,Bangalore.Don't worry about the no. of prints but how much money a film has collected.FYI the distributors of the movie KADAL is demanding money from MANI rathanm for their losses.

@abc I think you ppl must be frog in a well. Just an ex.Mani’s much hyped previous movie Ravanan was made with a budget of 80 crores and released and at the same time kannada movie Krishnan love story was released (it’s budget was only 6 crores) 3 years back. The collection of Krishnan love story was 40 crores and Ravanan was a big flop. Now also for Mani’s KADAL movie, a big flops, where distributors are demanding the invested money.

Here the discussion is between Kannada and Malayalam, as they both have the same economics. If you want to start comparing kannada filsm to Tamil filsm, then you will be dead in no time. Afghanistan Vs Namibia is an interesting match. Afhanishtan Vs India would horribly be one-sided.

@abc xyz My intention is not to compare with other industries but just I am mentioning the facts irrespective of the film industries. Of course it is not wise to compare Kannada with Tamil films because Politicians in TN are all from Filmy background and also KA doesn’t’ have temples for actors for worhipping.

@abc xyz This movie is about forest brigand Veerappan who killed innocent ppl of both from KA and TN. Director Ramesh has been done a very good research before making this movie. So instead of making any racial comment, it is good to support these type of movies.
