This happened in 1994. Rekha was on one of her visits to the US at the invitation of NRI hindi film buffs. She was shopping in a big LA store one afternoon when she noticed Barbara Streisand, the Hollywood actor/singer walking along the shop aisles. Rekha walked up to Ms.Streisand and greeted her. The TOI report said that they talked for a while and that it was friendly banter.
But before turning to go, Ms.Streisand stunned Rekha by asking her what she did for a living!
The TOI report added "Poor Rekha. She had thought that she was well known in Hollywood"
Ms.Streisand apparently had thought that Rekha was one more among the NRI women who was eager to grab a chance to get familiar!
