RIP Roger

Roger Ebert will be sorely missed by his legion of readers around the world. He was the greatest critic ever. His blog at the Chicago Sun Times website is an indispensable guide for any aspiring movie critic. A man whose appreciation for a movie would be put up by the producers on DVD covers and film posters. Two thumbs up old man! Thank you.

Too bad Raja Sen who was born because of a failed abortion attempt never learned anything from Ebert or his blog on the Chicago Sun Times website!

As for Ebert himself, he was a pompous windbag who misused his position as a big film critic to settle scores with Hollywood bosses who rubbed him the wrong way!

Trust the beggars of Indian media to go crazy about anything they here their distant relatives in the US blindly praise or recommend!

How ignorant can you be?

Roger Ebert was anything *but* a pompous windbag!

In fact, a very common complaint (from other critics) was that Ebert was too easy on most of the movies he reviewed. He "liked" too many movies! And Roger never apologized for that.

If you had read his glowing review of "Patang" which was shown in the Chicago festival, and his fond memories of his only India visit, you probably would not have given such an ignorant opinion.

Most of all, Roger's reviews were heart-warming, and he used to be forgiving for whatever slights he had experienced in the movie. Besides, he never forced anyone to accept reviews.
For years, he defended his poor review of "Die Hard" (the first one), but was gracious enough to accept that viewers disagreed with him on that one.

You always got the feeling that he was a warm, sincere human being - not a smart-alecky reviewer who wants his ego to stand out in his review rather than the film being reviewed.

The film, and the film-maker never lost prominence in his reviews.

And by the way, Ebert was probably one of the rare few critics who was friends with the movie makers and stars whose films he reviewed.
