Main reason for film failures or flops.......
by Benito Chavez on Apr 03, 2013 11:55 PM

Is because Hindi movies have become stale, saturated, and stinky. We have new actors entering films every day, unfortunately the quality is pitiable, except for the fact that all are well connected, it is like old wine in new bottle. We need fresh blood to make it interesting.

100 crores collection is always a fake figure, do the math
by vikas jindal on Apr 03, 2013 04:24 PM  | Hide replies

- 20% entertainment tax
- 50% exhibitor share
- 10% distributor share

and what you are left with is 30-35 crore
- Main star fees director fee of 20 crore..

and you are staring at a majore loss
despite collecting 100 crores

The bollywood 100 crore club is after the tax.. that is the nett figure... Exhibitor/ theatres share is only about 25-30% and distributor share is nothing but how much they buy it from producers. Example:-
1. a movie's budget is 40 crores..
The distributors together buy it for 50 crores.. So the producer straight away makes 10 crores profit..
Then the movie makes 100 crores nett. Out of that 25-30 crores to exhibitors/ owners. So the distributors make 70 crores out of 50 crores investment.. thereby making 20 crores profit.

Generally the distributors are multiple.. say 10 of them in different areas with 2 crores profit each..

This is how cinema business works..

therefore until the movie's budget is over 70 crores in real.. a 100 crore nett movie can not be a loss...

A very notable point is most often budgets of Indian movies are false and overhyped.. however the box office figures are pretty valid as they are calculated by a set of valid box office keepers...
