atleast he acknowledges it
by rich on Apr 03, 2013 02:05 PM  | Hide replies

well david dhawan atleast acknowledges the fact that 99% of his movies are remakes of south indian movies unlike people like sajid khan who copy a south indian movie and then pass it off as a original. Housefull and his earlier movie with akshay kumar and the baby was a frame by frame copy of a tamil movie. Same way, most of salman khans movies including wanted, ready and partner were copies of tamil movies. oh and in the list is SINGHAM too, rohit shetty shouts from the rooftops that its a classy movie but never does he acknowledge the fact that its someone elses story and idea. I really wonder why should people remake or re do movies.....?just release them with subtitles!!!!!! why make people spend on a recycled product??????

Sai Paranjpe's 1971 classic? I guess Rediff thinks Sai made the movie a decade before she actually did...

Rediff has outsourced proof reading work to UP and Bihar!

This is an example of the quality of the work generated in those two states!

Work at Rediff is to look for inane news, go to launch parties, kiss back sides of white people!

Proof reading is menial and repetitive work meant for people from b_h_a_i_y_a land!

David Dhawan is a certified Mor0n
by Rohit Kumar on Apr 03, 2013 12:09 PM  | Hide replies

I agree that some 100 crore films like RaOne are super flops because their budget itself is 150 crore plus. But calling Sholay a remake of a Hollywood film shows his ignorance. I know he is referring to 'Magnificent Seven' which is a complete copy of the Japanese classic 'Seven Samurai'. Sholay just borrowed part of the premise from the original movie but nothing else and the rest of the movie and the characters are immortal and therefore Sholay cannot even be compared with any other movie.

Even Talaash was a venture ending in loss for the producers. It was reported that Excel Entertainment had 2 reimburse some money to Reliance who were the distributors and had bought the movie at hyped prices

Almost all Bollywood movies inflict a huge loss on Indian society by making Indian audiences dumber than they already are!

As for the movie 'Sholay', it was "inspired" by many other Hollywood Westerns besides 'Magnificent 7' (from which it borrowed the main theme of the movie - hired guns brought to fight a marauding bandit) like 'Once Upon A Time in The West', 'The Wild Bunch ', 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' and Also other Bollywood movies like 'M e r a G a o n M e r a D e s h' and 'K h o t e S i k k a y'!

What's the difference?

If 'Sholay' is the gold standard of Bollywood movies then it tells you how pathetically bad Bollywood movies are!

100 crores do the math
by rohit rajpal on Apr 03, 2013 11:33 AM  | Hide replies

- 20% entertainment tax
- 50% exhibitor share
- 10% distributor share

and what you are left with is 30-35 crore
- Main star fees of 20 crore and you are staring at a loss
