And so definitely, he would have seen much less human excreta in public places than the Bollywood actors!

Thilakan was head and shoulders above all
by Hari on Sep 25, 2012 03:12 PM

I think Thilakan was a unique talent and a one man army of the mould of Gopi, PJ Antony, Balan K Nair, Murali (all national award winners btw) the likes of which, who honed their craft inspired from the days of communist plays, will never be seen again.

If you watch many of the superhit movies of Thilakan, he often overshadowed the performance of hero - be it Godfather, Sphadikam, Narasimham, Kireedom to name a memorable few.

This average Malayali of modest build and a memorable voice will live in the minds of true lovers of cinema in a much cherished place than is possible for the so called new age superstars. Of all, I consider the action of Actor Siddique the most despicable of all, and if there is any justice it would be that Thilakans memory will live much much longer than any of his bashers will ever be.

May he rest in peace after a long drawn out battle with the rotten beaurocracy of the film world who dared to stop him from acting for many years. It is also heartening that last two movies of his became quite sensations and superhits and his roles were well recognized and appreciated. So he can have that booming last laugh.

We felt Malayalam industry is good!
by Vishwanath CB on Sep 25, 2012 02:35 PM  | Hide replies

But inside Malayalam, they feel Tamil industry is good. The grass looks always greener on the other side. THe thing is, Indias never leave others to prosper. It's not in our blood. Even though we send multiple Space Shuttles, our mentality and caste politics are deep ingrained in our veins.

We have still long way to go.

Tamil industry adores Malayalam cinema for its quality.

Malayalam industry envies the Tamil industry for the big money that the latter swims in (due to the stuxpid tamils' crazily extreme penchant for cinema)!

Dude. You are used to watching Shakila movies dubbed in Tamil from Mallu industry I think. If there is a movie industry that is knows out to the world next to Bollywood is Tamil. Stop living like a frog in the well.

Oaf. You have obviously seen a lot of 'Shakila' movies! That is why you mentioned only that when someone talked about quality Malayalam cinema.

I have not seen even one!

And have you seen any of the numerous malayalam films that have won critical as well as popular acclaim in the past 30 years?

Keep watching 'Shakila', 'Silk Smitha' and other such movies and keep salivating! Do not bother to talk when someone mentions quality cinema! You do not know what it is!

barriers

It's a pity that a large population in India remain ignorant to the extraordinary talents in different states due to language barrier. The icons, especially in theatre/movie and litrature that are laguage dependent, get confined to their native/regional places until some special efforts are made either by their respective academy or other agencies.

Great Actor
by anto on Sep 25, 2012 01:58 PM

A terrific actor who has outshone every single co-star he has acted with, including the overrated superstars. The kind of perfection he brings to his characters is amazing. I have never seen his performance dips even in below average movies or even after he was physically hampered because of his health issues..A bold & straight forward man who can call a spade a spade!!!!
