Deeply flawed review by Raja Sen !!
by Ananda Shankar Das on Sep 18, 2012 09:53 PM

Raja, I dont think a plot can be called "flawed" the way you put it. Had the film been made the way you wish it to be the plot would be like a cheap bollywood movie where the characters are out of the world and predictable. I think the film gained balance and touched every ones heart because of your so call;ed flaw.Life isn't a formula that you go in a well defined path. A common person gets confused in the path of life no matter how good he is at a certain thing or attitude. I think the plot rightly depicts that. If the story doesn't satify you make your own story and release it, see how the audience reacts!!

In comments I saw other films names like "Mr. Bean", "Notebook", "Life is beautiful".....being compared to "Barfi". The fact that these international level- Oscar winning performances came to the readers/ viewer's mind on seeing "Barfi" is sufficient to make the effort of Anurag fruitful.
This should be sent to the Oscars as official Indian representative this year and I won't be surprised if we get critical acclaim there also.... Masterpiece with stellar performance by Ranbir, Priyanka and Illeana

OK to Cancel Phd Degrees of MMS ?

UPA2 destr0yed India's "growth" story

India wont happen till S0nia leaves.
Lets examine India success under PVN Rao, under NDA, and now collapsed under UPA.

1990s: PVN Rao did gr8. But MMS- technocrat: stopped our social sector & education: led 2 uproars.

But, Indians energies got expressed, eg, Infosys & honest businessmen. Also 1000s of SMEs, manufacturers, boomed.
It was NOT MMS! he gave 100 CR to RajivFoundation!

India's boom, therefore, was selfMADE, not FDI.
India didNOT use FDI: not like China.

Now S0niazIndia gets foreignDrugsTerroristicBlack monies, playing havoc with us. All-knowing MMS cleverly plays quiet.

2000s: 2nd boom under Vajpayee: India truly flowered (except farm sector: debts andSuicides. Vajpayee made RiverInterLinking project, to fix this).

But S0nia trashed the project: so farmer debts andSuicides escalated by lakhs.

S0nia created NREGA: massive L00ts here; not one SINGLE ASSET!

NREGA cash fills C0NGpockets, by socking you and me, via multiple taxes, high fuel-food-electricity-water-gas.

We donot need FDI, as huge capital hoarded up by S0niazMen, RIGHT-WINGers.

Clean businessmen scared of S0nia: Rush to Gujarat, MP, South.

Income tax officers openly speak of nests of, like, 30-50 crore! GovtOfficersL00ters want share: so businesses shut down.

MMS has noHonesty norWill, to correct India.
But good in CRUEL decisions like FDI: slave to West.

Being different doesnt make you Good..

Raja Sen - All I can say that may God bless your soul! And help you to find a soul actually!

Priyanka Chopra delivers such an amazing and completely controlled performance, and you found her manipulative and not needed in the movie!! Do you even understand cinema??? With Ranbir, you can almost be confident that he will do very well, but its PC who is brilliant beyond expectations in this film.. Indeed God bless her for being so real, belieavable and lovely as Jhilmil.. Loved her!

Agree to each and every word!

I received many raised eyebrows when I said similar things about the movie to my friends. But believe me, it is flawed. Many scenes copied from the "Mr. Bean", "Notebook", "Life is beautiful" etc. Apart from this, Priyanka was not so appealing to me. Ranbir was fab, Ileana was beautiful. A good movie indeed, but not a great one.

To do a nice copy you need strength so admire it. Priyanka's character was not made to be appealing hope your understanding of Movie is strong. Even great films in deed has flaws. It is a well appreciated work by Anurag.

So amazing! I loved every bit of it. I went to watch this movie at Wave Cinemas with my friends and we had such a superb time. I loved the way Ranbir said 'Barfi!'. It was so beqautiful. The whole story.....the way it was spun...it was simply perfect!

Not believable that Barfi was interested in Jhilmil romantically
by Joydeep Nath on Sep 17, 2012 01:16 PM  | Hide replies

Not believable that Barfi was interested in Jhilmil romantically. As friend or brother or uncle? Sure. As lover? Pure Joke. That's why they never kissed, even though Barfi and Shruti kissed. That would be awkward if Barfi and Jhilmil kissed.

When audience cannot empathize with the main plot, it is the its biggest failure. Kudos to Raja Sen for getting this right while some reviewers are giving thumbs up, and one calling "Barfi is a masterpiece comparable to India’s best films". Thats another joke.

Also, Howrah Bridge in the background, unfinished Durga idols, and red bordered saris in Kolkata-based movies are getting little old and tired.

The comedy in the movie is good though, supported by very good acting. But many scenes are copies from other films. Like the paper sticking to the hand. One scene reminded me of a similar scene from Roberto Benigni's Life is Beautiful - when the father is entertaining his son.

Hey Rediff: Can you make this text box bigger? Make it 200px tall; currently it is 70px. Make it wider as well - it won't cost you anything.

When did they show barfi was interested in her romantically? Thats upto your perception that what you wanna call their relationship. they were never shown kissing or having sex. So from where did u get the idea that Barfi was interested in jhilmil romantically.
And that was all the flaw you could point out!!! Have you seen other films that came out of bollywood? Which one did you find that suited to your sensibility?
