barfi no doubt its a nice movie.Ranbir and Priyanka acted well. But surely its not so great kinda movie. I dont understand what message Anurag Basu wanna give

Ranbir was great, but I cannot share the same feeling about Priyanka's performance..i think she sucked and as a whole brought the acting quality of the movie down..a more talented actress would have given it a much better touch..instead of somebody who just had one stock expression throughout the movie..
Barfi although a very good attempt by Anurag Basu, but, some scenes have been copied from the movie The Notebook, starred Joan Allen and Ryan Goslin(how is 80 percent Ranbir Kapoor lookalike). Still a good directed movie...cheers!!!!

Can you mention those scenes pls. Apart from 1 fleeting moment that kinda reminded me of The Notebook I could not find any resemblance.

Its not the notebook.. Its the remake of the korean cold cult classic "SYMPATHY FOR Mr.VENGEANCE". The only part different is that the kidnapped girl is autistic and ends up marrying the deaf&dumb guy.
I agree with Raja Sen that Priyanka looks totally retarded and NOT Autistic.Basu intended well to include A mental disability in the movie but he should've done his home work right.People with Autism don't make eye contact like Priyanka does.Nor do they revel in loud noises among stranges.Good intentions,badly executed.

While I completely agree that priyanka's character looks more retarded than Autistic..i do not agree with the eye contact part..i have an autistic relative, and he makes more eye contact than most of the normal people I know and has no issue with noises..the only non believable part is about "love"..they are generally not aware of that emotion to the extent that they can care for that person through old age...and also, Priyanka had the exact same expression throughout the movie..

I do not agree with your comment.When you mean "totally retarded" , I assume you mean somebody with a severely debilitating condition. There is no medical diagnosis called "retardedness". Autism is also called Autism spectrum disorder because it is not one condition but a range of conditions on a spectrum. Severe autisim is much more than just somebody not having good social skills. Also different people suffering with the condition have different symptoms. I work with a child who suffers from Rett Syndrome(said to be on the autistic spectrum) and needs much more help than Priyanka needed in the film.Personally I did not find flaws in the characterisation of Priyanka. However I did find other flaws in the film but overall a wonderful fim!!!

Do not want to sound pedantic and yet could not resist pointing out that we no longer use the word "retarded". Mentally challenged/ cognitively impaired / with learning dificulties are a few of the nicer phrases you could use instead. :-)
The writer's article is very much like the film barfi! Too many information, emotions intertwined in one sentence. Simplicity either in a film or an article make it stay longer in the mind of the audience.
