Singers Improvising song which was not allowed earlier
by mandar borwankar on Sep 03, 2012 06:32 PM  | Hide replies

Few years ago music contests were real treat to watch because the results were decided by judges who were from Classical Music Industry and not by sms sent by public. No singer had the guts to improvise any song sung by legends like Lata, Rafi, Kishore etc. If anyone did that the judges use to deduct marks but it seems that is no longer applicable. This is really ridiculous. You want to make your mark as a singer and you are not singing the song the way it is sung. Nowadays even the judges have become very lenient. Because of reality shows like Indian Idol the quality of singing has deteriorated.

My guru use to tell me singing means:
1.Should understand sur i.e sa re ga ma etc.sur is the base of singing. If you practice regularly you will be able to sing songs of high range as well as low range.

2. Taal i.e rhythm you should sing with the music. this will allow you to sing in proper pace i.e not too fast and too slow. concentrate on the beats of music.

3. Understand the lyrics of the song and its emotions.

4. Raag of the song.

I have also observed that participants no longer sing old songs they only sing when a episode is dedicated for such songs. Many singers just want to sing item songs so that they get maximum vote from the public.
This country has good singers from classical background but they are not in limelight and they are struggling to make their ends meet.Nowadays we have judges like Anu Mallik, Himesh, Pritam etc who are interested only in drama

Brilliant, I am classically trained, have done professional shows and completely agree to your point of view.

This is not only with singing. As a nation we are celebrating mediocrity in almost everything.

There are too many shallow people who have lots of money, who would spend on Salman Khan movies, listen to Mika Singh and call him a great singer, read books of Durjoy Dutta and Chetan Bhagat and so on...

We get the kind of politicians, singers and writers we support!

This is just a medium to fool people

These types of shows are nothing but a publicity gimmick ..just have a look at the 4th picture. The finalists are wearing cartoon dresses, dressed like clown just becoz Ranbir kapoor is there to promote his new film. This is the respect this show is giving to the singers. Its more focussed on which celebrity is coming and which movie is releasing next week. Who cares for the singers and what would be the fate of these singers after this over. 1 week of fame and then lost for ever struggling with their lives...but still their life would be much changed than it was earlier but to find a rafi, kishore in these shows is like dreaming of moon on earth.

True, just look at the previous 5 winners. where are they? The winner of the first show Abhijit something, he gets himself humiliated by participating in commedy circus as an extra. Rest are not even visible. Never heard any news about the albums which they talk about. Did anyone buy a copy of their album?
The singer quality is good but what this industry needs is nasal singers like himesh reshamiya and mohit chauhan. Good voice singers without "connections" have no place here.

Match fixed.Awarded on the basis of looks and family background.

His voice is too sharp and feminine and cannot be played for any male star.

Devender Pal Singh is the best singer.
