true, even malgudi days,rajni,flop show,tenali rama,ramayan, superb days i hate tv soaps today.
I don't understand why people look back at 80's and say it was a great time.. The 80's sucked BIG time. Bollywood was churning out horrible movies thanks to the Bacchan Mania (remember Coolie, Mard, Shenshah etc?)and sub-standards movies.Only a handful of movies (JBDY included) were a cut above the mediocre cinema. Doordarshan's program quality was really good but sometimes they bore people to death as well. The country was unstable and job scenario not so great.. we are better off now. :-)

@jaguar
was amitabh writer, producer, director of those handful movies that you mentioned?....bachchan mania existed in 70s also and it continued till date through TV and Cinema...just like today's era 80s was a mixed big....I agree that there were some very bad movies but there were also good movies that were made in 80s like Sharaabi, Main Azaad hun, Aakhri raasta, bemisaal, shakti, silsila, satte pe satta....even in non stream cinema you have movies like Saraansh, ardhsatya, Vijeta, new delhi times etc.....every era has its own bag of ups and downs...even today typical non sensical masala movies are blockbusters

India was a beautiful country that time. Those cinemas, Doordarshan serials (only 1 or 2 channels), just unimaginable days.... Neena is also looking very cute...

Are you ok. Doordarshan used to bore everyone to death. No other options. Ridiculous boring days.

Life was more balanced. You could do a lot more things than warm a couch plus watch some real quality stuff on tv at specific times.

Agreed sir, now a lot of channels but only advertisement that too paid by us. What TRAI is doing, we have to pay money for advertises. Channels are collecting money from both side, from the public and the product owners for ads that too has to be paid by the public as a last user of product. Same on authorities and policy makers.

Change is what one needs to accept and move forward. there were days when there was no TV or radio. Some people like those days too as these r childhood memories. One needs to look at future and move forward.
didn't rediff mention pankaj kapur and satish kaushik in this column who played the characters of taneja and his assistant ashok respectively. what a great fun ride this movie was.........brilliant work by kundan shah and co-workers. Not to mention the epic stage scene in the end is till date the best comic situation on indian cinema.
