The makers had indeed approached Rajnikanth for this movie since he was ideally suited to the role. Moreover, had Rajnikanth acted in the movie, there would not have been any need for make-up.

You r correct. After Rajnikanth rejected it the role went to Thala Ajith who too rejected it and decided to act in ASAL instead...
