why is it so much exaggerated.?
by Ashwath Rao on Jun 24, 2012 03:06 AM

I am not against the show but just felt something more could have been done, say on the legal front or as assistance, financially, politically or legally, than sympathetically. Don't u feel that its just a show..? Its just some another way of exposing the nudity of India, in a country that already knows every bit of nonsense taking place. On the legal front other media sources like some newspaper reporters' crew, the TV news channel crew and others, have succeeded by legally handling such cases. What has this show done ? Creating awareness cannot be achieved by changing the main topic during each session. Amitabh Bachchan started propaganding about the POLIO dose ("do boondh zindagi(polio dose)ke") which ran for years together, but had serious pros each year. Shabana Asmi had, in the same way spread awareness about AIDS..("Aids chchuune se nahi failta"). Each one remembers this just because that was the only statement and issue raised by that celeb. Amir's intention could be very righteous at first thought, but approach sounds inappropriate. After twenty episodes, that is twenty different issues, hardly two or three one shall remember. And once the show comes to an end, (may be an year or so later) people shall forget those two also. But "do boondh zindagi ke" and "aids chchuune se nahi failta" will always exist in every ones mind, irrespective of they suffering from it. At the same time, they shall scarcely remember what to do if haras

What is it about.....
by sunil varma on Jun 03, 2012 12:50 PM

@ the Author: There are two things about the show that we need to consider
1.      Primarily it is a TV show, with clear business objective and a defined return on investment.
2.      It is a talk show with a strong social subject, aimed at arm chair philanthropist who empathizes with these social ills prevalent in the society.
If we keep the above in mind the show does a good job. It has a celebrity anchor whose images perfectly gels with the content of the show. The producers made a great promotional campaign to ensure people watch it, discuss it and blog it. They have been successful with their business objectives.
Does the show have a social objective, I guess somewhere there is. It wants to stir people out of their comfort zones and show something they are well aware of but got so used to that it that does not matter anymore.
I am not advocating the show, but I think the research team has done their bit of homework well, it has been well produced and the show has been anchored fairly well anchored. (I agree some of the showman antiques could have been avoided on the screen)
Would it make a change…not really. When a mass movement like that of Anna Hazare could not dent into the system a show on TV can definitely not make a big change. But as the author has said it will stir some, shame some and make a lot of people uncomfortable. May be there will be light at the end of the tunnel at some point in future….

Illegal abortions ( result of rapes, love affairs among minors , atrocities on helpless women etc etc ) is a more serious problem than female foeticide today. Why Amir do not take up this more serious issue ?. He is a celebrity and gets the publicity. People of this country never forget what treatment Anna Hazare got after the movement on Jan Lokpal. If it impacts politicians they will find a way to crush them. Female foeticide is not an issue of vote bank. Once the TV broadcast is over people will forget Amir and the issue. Best suggestion. Let Amir stand for the next MP election win and become a minister in charge of Peoples Grievances.
