no surprise she does not have work or being side tracked. if she continues this attitude then she will be out of work in no time. Gone are the days when music and dance industry was dominated by a single person. earlier lata was the only singer now the competition is very tough and we see that even the talented top singers struggling to surive (eg. alka yagnik, kumar sanu, udit narayan etc).

At her peak she got lots of fame and money and worked with big stars of her time and I feel she should be happy that it happened to her and thank god for it! She should instead bless the next generation and hope they too get their share of fame and money and not yearn for what is destined for them!

But try explaining to all of the elderly actors who continue to hog all of the limelight, get lions share of money and insure in some way or other the younger lot never come up!

Saroj is a bystander
by Jay Subramanyam on Mar 31, 2012 10:33 AM  | Hide replies

Even during her peak I have never seen or heard Saroj Khan saying anything good for her contemporaries. When Chinni Prakash won the award for 'Hum' she called his style as plain 'gimmickry'. As though her style is all sacrosanct! Saroj has limitations of her own in the sense that she isn't quite adept at handling purely Westernised numbers. Today, she is a bystander because she has never really updated her style and has remained stuck in a groove. Obviously the 80s style of choreography isn't going to work for her in today's techno-age.

I didn't expect such cheap comments and jealous behavior from a choreographer of her caliber. After all she is the one who slept with her master.

problem...
by prem k on Mar 30, 2012 10:35 PM  | Hide replies

her attitude and words basically explain why she is no longer doing well. she had been a highly successful choreographer and now is not able to keep pace with change. no wonder, her destiny has got stuck, unlike that of her rival farah khan, who she denounces as not-so-talented.

this is the problem with many seniors. they lament when they dont succeed, indicating to the world that their success was probably more a fluke than anything else.

she cries about lack of "nazakat" and "adah" among today's stars - clearly meaning that she cannot succeed unless the heroine is not graceful enough. she is not willing to change herself, but is blaming her heroines. i am sure that in her own hey-days, more senior people would have lamented at lack of "nazakat" and "adah" for that generation - when heroines had the capability to convey their love for the hero with only expression of eyes and never even needing to go near them. or even take the example of the song that brought her to the centerstage - ek, do, teen of Tezaab. At that time, it was considered to be one of the most vulgar songs. Surely her seniors might have been complaining about her that she was bringing vulgarity into dance. she was not complaining about "nazakat* or "adah" at that time, but now she is.

she admits...
by prem k on Mar 30, 2012 10:16 PM

she admits that she made it big because she was willing to get used by sohan lal at a tender age of 13. so what does it mean? i am never saying that she does not have talent, but i think the main problem is that we have too many talented persons, but the few who reach the top are not necessarily the most talented. they may be among the top 5% or even 1%, but not 0.01%. you need excellent coaches and mentors to get the people among the top 5% to be moulded into the ones to top 0.0001%. This is not just true here, but practically in every field - science, arts, sports, cinema. Having travelled around the world, I have always felt that even though we have too many highly talented people, they are good enough to the best. May be, our system and society does not promote excellence. There is always one odd sachin or rehman. But my analysis says that when our highly talented people reach the top locally, they get laidback and feel that they have achieved enough. They are not willing to give the last push to emerge on the world stage and satisfied with what they achieve nationally. difficult to give a reason, but may be idol worship by over-zealous fans and juniors could be one reason that success probably gets to their heads more quickly. but these are just conjectures.

Encourage the new comers and don't be too harsh on them.
by STAR FISH on Mar 30, 2012 05:22 PM  | Hide replies

I have just read about how Saroj started her career.I admire her for her presevearance and hard work which made her one of the top dance coreographers in the industry. However she or rather one should not forget the past-their own struggles, hardships and the difficulties one had to go through. Now in this article Saroj Khan has very openly admitted that these days she is being somehow sidetracked in the idustry.I do understand her feelings and sympathise with her. However if one watches her judging the new comers in those dance programmes on TV well she presents a very totally a very different picture of herself and comes across as a very arrogant and bossy judge-who minces no words and almost cuts down and humiliates some of the participants.Well she should not do this and now that she is being sidetracked by the idustry and heroines she knows how exactly it feels.....Readers your comments aare welcome please do comment.

Star Fish,
What you have posted is nothing but the basic human nature, to prove that you are the best.Such things(bossing) happens every where in family, sports, film industry, politics, in office, amongst friends. It is important that we remain relentless or consistent, that is throughout our ups and downs but that rarely happens. Every human being is different and we should understand this and move on.May be this is the reason why the new actresses do not like to work with Saroj.

Guy nice to read your comment and it is true that is the basic nature of human beings but NOT all human beings there are others who is spite of being one of the best and after having nade their mark in life still come across as humble human beings who engourage the new comers and try their best to motivate them. This helps the new comers and cherrs them up there are celbrities like Dharmendra,Mithun etc who have'nt forgotten their struggle and come across as humble humans.Unlike Ms.Saroj Khan who is bossy and many er times rude.

Got your point....but the world is now a more selfish one, hence the bossing. The examples you've given are of yester years heroes but do you think any young hero or actress will come out and encourage the new ones. They will just fight for superiority and to reach at the top they can go at any level.

Guy thanks for all your comments. You are a very civil and well mannered individual.I appreciate your way of thinking with a level well balanced mind.To make it short there is a saying which holds very true even in life....as they say "As you sow so you reap"well then so is it in the case of Saroj Khan. She is bossy, rude and un-diplomatic by discouraging and insulting others she has dug her own grave. She might be good in her dance steps but as a person she is NOT.Does she think that by critisizing all the others in the film industry she will get more work wel she is mistaken. It could be the last nail in the coffin as they say.

Yes i agree with u. Sometimes the contenstants completly loose their spirit by her remarks. I think she has to encourage them by telling them their pros and cons. But she really humiliates some of them so much, that they feel completly lost. Shes ace choregrapher, but i think head strong becoz of her highly successful career. Thats why she criticizes others like farha khan and vaibhavi 2. She needs to recognize their talent n hard work, coz they wont be in the industry.

To all who are on this discussion panel:

Pls remember truth is always harsh & naked. It is very difficult to accept the truth. And, this is applicable for all of us. The very human tendency is to project him/herself as the perfect & clean without any mistake. There are rare human beings who accept their shortcomings.

Talking about Saroj Khan... she is no doubt a dance-master par excellence. All would agree to it. About her arrogant & bossy behaviour, I have told earlier that "truth is harsh and diffcult to be accepted." I have seen many programs of her a judge, where she has given money as prize to contestants from her own pocket and, those are heartily accepted by those contestants. She has even cried on some occasions, when someone performed so well.
OK. Sometimes she may appear harsh, bossy; but that does not mean she is an arogant lady.
