Why do you journos fail to mention the real facts?
by Ratan on Mar 07, 2012 10:02 PM  | Hide replies

The man, who was completely ignored and given a cold shoulder by Bollywood was accorded the warmest welcome by the Malayalam film industry, where he went on to win the hearts of millions of fans and created more than two decades of magical music, rooted in melody.

Even though the Hindi film industry may be content with celebrating the likes of RD Burman, Ravi Shankar Sharma, who was known as "Bombay RAVI" will forever be celebrated down South.

It's time you journos brushed up your awareness of Indian film music, not just Hindi!

Well Said Ratan. I wonder whom these Blind Journos are trying to satisfy by ignoring such facts. Rediff, can you modify your article at least after reading Ratan's comments?

Thanks for the support guys!
There are still so many great composers and musicians who are being ignored largely by the so-called mainstream media, just because they have not been active on the Hindi film circuit.

In fact, arguably the most 'complete' composer ever produced by Indian cinema - Maestro Ilayraja is still being ignored. The man is the most prolific composer (over 900 movies and 4800 songs to his credit and still counting); he 'writes' complete OST background score for an entire movie in a matter of minutes and hands the notes over to each section of the orchestra; he is an expert in a multitude of musical genres - from folk to Indian classical to Western Classical to Jazz; he is the first Asian to have composed a symphony, played by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and has contributed substantially to the entire Indian film industry (Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi). Has he been given true recognition?

A week ago, I happened to watch a teaser trailer of the yet-to-be released Hindi film, "Happi" by Bhavna Talwar starring Pankaj Kapoor (search YouTube for Happi trailer). The musical score for this Black & White flick is nothing short of extra-ordinary. But no, none of the mainstream media has even bothered to mention it.

I hope India wakes up and accords the recognition for such musical greats in their lifetime, before it is too late!

Thanks Ratan. For once, I appreciate the views about Bollywood & South Indian Film Industry. Many a talented things were or are being ignored by the filthy Bollywoodwallahs, be it directors like Guru Dutt, singers like Suresh Wadkar, actors like Balraj Sahni, Music Directors like Sajjad etc etc.
