Many are fuming here assuming Aseem Chhabra ( Aseem da !) to be a Bengali. Vent your ire, sure, but not as if Bengali is prasing a Bengali. I am one and frankly I did find the movie average.
I was irritated with the antics_of Kalki_.Her acting seemed like that of a mediocre hollywood movie character forcefully inserted into an Indian movie. It was out of place.
I have nothing against bongs_but frankly it was a movie about slums of Kolkata.I am an admirer of bengali directors like Satyajit Rai or Tapan Sinha.Even Sujoy Ghosh is a great director.
But I cannot accept every_crap just because some bengali_is associated with it.Please donot bring your chauvinism_to attack_me.
I loved Sujoy's Kahaani does not mean I must like every movie directed by some one from Bengal. It is simply not done.
And why you have to name it Shanghai ? Just to copy hollywood movies names such as Shaghai Nights or Shanghai ? It could have well been given an Indian name.
There has been lot of agressive_publicity-gimmicks to promote this movie starting from naming the movie as Shanghai (it is a great_insult to the movies named Shanghai Nights and Shanghai) and those who are expressing dislike towards this movie are castigated_of not having good enough_taste to watch intellectual_movies.This is invasive cultural aggression. Please donot under_estimate the viewer and over_estimate yourself.I have also watched great master piece works such as PatherPanchali,CharuLata,Gandhi,Silence_of_the_Lambs,God_Father,The_bridge_over_the_river_Kwai,Vietnam,Schindlers_list,etc,et c.etc...
This is a very noisy movie made in very dark background.Only silver_lining was acting of Abhay Deol..
I demand that you return my money which i wasted in watching this crap movie. I had to leave in middle as this film is very very boring and dark and loud. how can you make such a bad film.
please contact on my rediffmail to return my money.

the script is weak... has gaps and that too intolerable gaps... for example... 1. wife of slain leader becomes next CM... she is no where in the movie except declaring her to be the wife 2. Central ruling party breaks coalition with state ruling party just because a minister of the central ruling party is being told that chief secretary has got some proofs... how naive... central ruling party is made up of a minister probably... central ruling party would have benefited more by arm twisting CM than going in for a new election 3. Coalition partner of state ruling party just disappears along with the CM. Is CM of a state so spine less as to go down without a fight?
Gaps, gaps and gaps everywhere... story never takes hold... it was seriously a time wasted to watch movie after spending nearly 360 for two tickets.
HELLO ASEEM DA, DON'T FLOW WITH YOUR THOUGHT... THIS KIND OF MOVIES ARE SO EASILY TO PERFORM THAT EVEN YOU AND I NON ACTOR CAN PERFORM THE ROLE OF ANY CHARACTERS FROM THIS MOVIE WITH SAME CONVICTION...
I having watched the movie feel that this movie was great - super story, acting and entertainment. Most people felt the movie is useless. The great irony in life is to see how opinions differ with changing perspectives.

the movie reminds us the state of affairs in one one the states of hindia. a cheap minister wants to become a pm and under the guise of "pragati" (development) and in the process of PRAGATI has thrown open the door to violence and destroy every bit of descent. it also reminds to some extent the rule of emergency in the sixties. if EMERGENCY was resented, how come this type of rule is being given boost.
