The bollywood cultural focus on films has now shifted from punjab to UP and Bihar, MP. now , there are many films which highlight the UP/Bihar/MP culture than the punjabi culture.

Post the success of Wanted, Dabanng, the directors have realized, that the rela money can still be made in India, and UP,Bihar, MP etc are the largest markets, as they were before SRK/Yashraj discovered the Punjabi diaspora after DDLJ's success, which led to the films being made to cater to this diasporic sensibilities. This trend has reached its natural decline, and thus the focus back to where it was prior to that! Salman has shown how Rajini(though still less incormparison) like figures can be attianed by targetting the cow belt.

FYI..Omkaara that had a UP background and Gulal that was based in Rajasthan were released much before the movies you mentioned. Don't include the likes of Vishal Bhardwaj and Anurag Kashyap in the same list of formula-hungry film makers. They decide the situations based on the demand placed by their story and not based on commercial needs.
