star system should stop
by roy jose on Jun 09, 2012 02:46 PM  | Hide replies

If the star system in Indian cinema comes to an end, we will definitely have some meaningful cinema. Otherwise below average Directors like Sajjid Khan and Farah Khan will make mindless comedies, have a big star cast and make pots of money out of it. Every movie should not just entertain but it should also educate. One cannot ignore the fact that a majority of the Indian population get influenced by what’s shown by Bollywood or for that matter, other regional cinemas. People should watch meaningful cinema like Shanghai and put the below average film producers, directors out of business.

film journalism
by Shivaji Ghosh on Jun 06, 2012 08:44 AM

while some of the present crop of actors are trying to break conventions and taking up challenging assignments, its rather sad to note film journalism is still struggling from the 80-90s mindset. How can such questions on "one-hero projects, two hero projects" be justified otherwise? Its not about going the Hollywood way, its about world cinema where content drives the bus. With so many interesting content-driven projects coming up, its high time for our scribes to upgrade themselves.

Shanghai will be a good film & i hope hashmi gets recognition
by arnab bhattacharya on Jun 05, 2012 03:49 PM  | Hide replies

Nowadays all the trashy films are becoming big hit.Emran Hashmi had shown guts to do a great film..Im sure some great releases like Shanghai & Gangs of Wasseypur won't be as big hit as Rowdy Rathores :(
[since Paan Singh tomar, kahaani, vicky donor has become reasonable Hits & appreciated by many..atleast i want both Shanghai & Wasseypur to fall on those categories..we should recognise and respect talents like Anurag Kashyap,Dibakar Banerjee,Vishal Bhardwaj,Shimit Amin]

I am completely inline with your views my friend. RGV used to be in this list once. But this Box office mania has taken a toll on him
