I know how the Americans themselves eat! Clumsily! First, they hold the fork in the left hand and the knife in the right hand to cut a piece of the food. Then they abandon the knife altogether, switch the fork from left to right hand and then eat the piece of food just cut with the fork in right hand. They keep on switching from right to left and from left to right until all the food is finished or is transferred from the plate to the table.

What's the big deal?
by Shila on Jul 25, 2012 07:14 PM

Where in the show did Oprah say eating with one's hands was a bad thing? She was just asking about a way of like that is not common in America. It's like if an Indian came to the US and said 'Americans wear their shoes in the house." Yes, many do. It's seems odd to Indians, but it's not to Americans. It's a non-issue.
Maybe India should focus more on her portion of the show about the widows, and try to change India for the better.

It is a pity
by PRASANTA BARIK on Jul 25, 2012 07:05 PM

Nothing wrong in eating with hand, as we wash our hands before doing so.
Your visit to India is meaningless without understanding the culture.
It is a pity you can not see the real India then.

big deal out of nothing
by harjeet singh on Jul 25, 2012 07:01 PM  | Hide replies

Big deal made out of nothing. Did she mention about the dowry abuse in India? What about our country being the world topper in open defecation? What about the treatment of dalits or issue of fetocides. No, she came from a western country, where things are different. She just stated a obvious thing, which people are crying about. Fix these issues first and be glad, she didn't mention such things.

there is difference between 'eating with hands' and 'still eating with hands' . as if eating with hands is stone age and indians still in stone age.
